Does anyone remember film montage?

there was this great film montage done, that was shown during the awards, it captured how filmakers have captured history through movies, it was introduced by
Morgen Freemen, it was amazing, i used to have tape of it, but if anyone can help me, to tell me a website i can go to so i can watch that montage again would be great

I remember it... haha I was 13 at the time but I still remember, wasn't part of it to the music of Apollo 13's ending credits? I've looked for it everywhere online and can't find it, but someone out there must have it.

I cant believe you remember it! I was the same age, this montage had made me love movies, it really has stayed with me to. I had taped the show that year but I then taped over it, so, I have always longed to see it again.

i love movies but they just pass the useless time i sometimes have.

come to think of it, I can't believe I remember it either! but it definitely had the same effect with me... heck soon after that I realized I wanted to work in the film industry haha.

I've tried to dig it up so many times, but was never successful. I think I'll search the net a bit later tonight for it again... let me know if you find it!

The montage was directed by Chuck Workman, who has made many such montage films for the Academy Awards. It would help if you knew what the title of the film was. "History of the World"? "History of the World on Film"? etc. The reason why it's hard to find online is because the Academy is very protective of its footage. On their site, you can find some video, but it's mostly backstage interviews with the winners, and it only consists of footage from the most recent Oscarcast. It would be nice if the Academy released a video of their greatest hits. They did that about fifteen years ago; it's about time for a new one.

Good luck on the search. To cheer you up, here's a Chuck Workman Oscar special that I did manage to find (It's the 1999 memorial to Stanley Kubrick)

I came on this site to find out the name of this clip to see if it was on youtube, when i saw this thread i thought i would be in luck but it doesnt seem like this clip is online which is a shame because it was amazing, hope people just keep on looking and post about it on here sometime

reply

I have that clip, and I would upload it to youtube, but the Academy always deletes the videos from their shows, and even cancels the accounts of the users who upload them.

reply

I've not seen it since the show was on and it still stays in my memory, i dont know why they dont let these clips become available as they are amazing

If this is the montage that opens with the parting of the Red Sea from the Ten Commandments, I too have been looking for it. I also remember that the screen was split with the storming of Omaha beach from The Longest Day and Saving Private Ryan with one on top of the other. I didn't think it was a history montage but a montage of great movie moments. They do these montages every year so I could have them mixed up. No evidence of this montage anywhere on YouTube.

It's six years since I posted on this thread, and I still haven't been able to find this montage online. You'd think that it would have ended up on YouTube by now! According to Wikipedia, it's the "History of the Movies Montage" - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/72nd_Academy_Awards. If anyone manages to find this clip, please post the link to this forum thread!

I met someone who taped all of the Oscar ceremonies in 2008 and low and behold he taped the 1999 Oscar ceremony! I was able to watch this montage over again. It was nostalgic to remember a more innocent time in my life when I was captivated by a romantic idea I had towards movies: how resonating an effect a single moment in a film can be which represented moments in history, recreated on film, carrying with it some kind of cathartic power.

Thankfully it's now online

Maybe not as incredible as I remember but still has some wonderful moments.
