Get A Copy?
Would anybody know how it's possible to get a copy of this Oscar night? I'd really love to see it. I didn't know who Kevin Costner was at the time and although I did watch it, I don't remember much about it. Help???

shareYou probably need to do the same thing I'm going to have to do...
go on one of the main boards and start asking around.
I didn't start taping these until the 69th year, myself, and thusly have missed a LOT of great Billy Crystal material.
Good luck in the hunt!

This is from my brain, so no guarantees.
It's time for A.M.P.A.S. to begin releasing past Oscar shows on DVD. I can't think of any reason why they wouldn't unless it involves big legal battles with the networks, sponsors, studios and anyone else who would like a piece of the action. There should be plenty of demand for such a popular awards ceremony.
shareI'd like purple pony.
I think the reason we won't see it happen is exactly what you said - the legal battles.
If only they would at least do a "best of" sort of thing, containing the best bits from the best hosts, maybe some of the better music performances. I saw something like that on VHS years ago at a video rental store, but all it had was stuff from the 70's and a bit from the 80's. It wasn't anywhere near long enough!

The Academy will probably never release tapes of the shows. The compilation tape from 1991 failed miserably. Someone I know wrote to the Academy a few years ago telling them of the demand for shows. He mentioned the fact that he had recently bid on the 50th Oscars on E-bay. BIG MISTAKE. Not only did he not get a response, ALL Oscar ceremony tapes vanished from e-bay overnight! Never to return! I'm sure they monitor auction sites like that.
If anyone has anything to trade, I have all the Oscars from 1979 (the Deer Hunter) thru 2005 (Million Dollar Baby) on DVD. I also have a 1 hour highlights from 1977 (Rocky), the complete 1953 (Greatest Show On Earth) and 1954 (On the Waterfront) and three radio broadcast ceremonies from the 1940's. I also have some Emmy Awards and Golden Globes from the 80's & 90's. Obviously I'm looking for what I have never seen and what I do not have. Send me a PM if you have something to trade.
