Hilarious, an instant classic (spoilers)

This Columbia-Tristar VHS was another .99 Only store find. I don't have high expectations whenever I buy movies like this - i.e., no reviews on the box, mostly unknown actors that I never heard of, and apparently no time in the theaters. Some turn out to be unbearable (i.e. The Marksman with Wesley Snipes, or Asylum of the Damned]) while others turn out to be amusing campfests (i.e., Frankenfish, Red Water, etc.) Sasquatch falls under the latter category. I'm not ashamed to say it, but it's worth every penny.

The acting/production values were akin to a Fall ABC TV series or made-for-tv-movie, but with extremely bad editing/continuity. The plot starts off as the standard "people-get-lost-in-wilderness-(insert creature name)-is-stalking-them-and-appears-to-be-killing-each-off-one-by-one" cliche. The reason for the journey is so the millionaire CEO of a bio-tech firm could salvage a computer console that was on-board a plane crash. Wealthy guy's estranged daughter was on the plane, adding drama/mystery to the plot. There's also a scene of female nudity (however, the actress who is apparently naked has a body double.)

The gold scenes involve the characters questioning eachother's credentials and achievements. In addition to the old, washed-out millionaire, you have the avid outdoorsman/naturist (who looks more like a popular country singer) a wildlife novelist (who doesn't seem so much like a writer than an illiterate, short-fused redneck) in addition to youngsters who look more like Old Navy models (with limited acting experience) than the professionals we're supposed to believe. Truly hysterical.

By the end (which is set up with a big plot twist), one realizes that the story had potential to be something more than a Saturday morning monster movie: The millionaire (played by Lance Henriksen) either made up the whole experience for publicity, was insane and delusional, or really did come in contact with the "missing link". Maybe the creature wasn't the savage beast everyone thought, but an undocumented Hominid that was no more vengeful, defensive or territorial than the average human. (We don't see how the plane crash survivors die - we only see their decomposed corpses, which are mostly intact, placed in a cave.)

Unfortunately, everything is so poorly executed that the small "potential" was second nature to the extremely poor execution. However, that might just work in the viewer's favor if you expect rock bottom. That's exactly what I did, and I was clearly enthralled (for all the wrong reasons.)

Ignore the good or bad reviews and watch this. You won't be disappointed.
