US version or Italian Version?

In my opinion the cast, the script and the soundtrack of the US version was sooooo much better

reply

There's no US version. There is a Us remake. I've seen it, and it's good... but it misses the point, that's the underlying bitterness. Is just an opinion, obviously.

reply

I saw the remake first and just saw the Italian version tonight. In my opinion the Italian version was hands-down the superior of the two.
And as far as better casting in the American version, I couldn't disagree more. Again however, this is just my opinion.

Italian version.

The US version is bad remake in which the writer took out the feeling of the movie.
The only plus of the US version was the music. Zach Braff has a really good taste in music imho.

reply

the Italian version is better, script, cast, everything. this wasn't as bad as when they made the US version of coupling (the british tv series) but it was still nowhere near the original.

reply

i wanna se the italian version but i havnt.. the actors performance inte the US reamke is amazing, so is the music... the movie is ggodd maybe a 7/10

reply

I haven't seen the Italian version yet, I really want to, because honestly, I was so dissapointed with the US remake.

reply

The Italian version....and I haven't even seen the Us version yet, I know it sucked cuz its probably got a happy ending or some crap that kills the original point of the original.

Your mouth was made to suck my kiss

reply

I'll go with the Us remake, I liked it better.

Adriana Barraza and Guillermo Arriaga GOT ROBBED!

reply

I watched the US remake first (a few months ago) and I watched the Italy original last night, which I like better. To be honest, the US remake isn't bad.

reply

I tried to watch the US remake after having seen the original a few years ago on cable. At first I didn't realize I had seen the original, but things started seeming really familiar once the ingenue started flirting with Mr. Braff. I had a specific, dreadful feeling of de ja vu and in that moment I realized that the director had indeed, as a poster above me correctly states, taken all the emotion out of the movie. Perhaps, though, that's what you get when your primary cast consists of a sitcom star, a has been Real World throw-away and a secondary character from a Fox teen drama. None of these people can act worth a damn, there is not a lick of chemistry in the first 20 minutes (that's all the time I had to waste on this thing) and I feel like I just watched an insulting parody of something most Americans probably don't know exists. Please, if you haven't seen the original, you owe it to yourself to check it out. I warn you, though, if you like Zack Braff (I enjoyed Garden State) and the rest of this bunch, you might want to stay away as it reveals them as the hacks they truly are.

from a total foreigner's point of view (i'm Indonesian), I couldn't pick which version is superior, because both films are basically the same! i watched the US remake first, then watch the original one wondering why the remake needs to be done in the first place. the US just reenact the whole Italian version scene by scene, translating the script line by line (okay except maybe for the last 10 minutes of the ending).

needless to say, they're both good movies. probably because I watch too many hollywood movies and US tv series, it's easier for me to relate the US version since the stars are well known. but for originality's sake, i say the Italian one wins by a close shave.

this is wat i put in the last kiss board:
i like l'ultimo bacio better, the actors seemed more apropiatte for the characters and the movie was more beliebeable. wen i finished watching the original i was very impressed how they captured the reality of relationships
and i felt like the other was nothing more than a romantic movie but thats just my opinionn

excuse my english:)

Italian version is WAY better. I saw it first and was so upset to hear that they were making a US version that i refused to watch it. It just goes to show how un-original American cinema has become that it has to steal idea's from Italian cinema. The Italian one is much more believable I think, because the film was made to show an aspect of Italian life, and obviously that is different from the American way of living. For instance, it is pretty gross for a 30 year old man to go after a high school , but in Italy guys are just like that - they don't care what age you are! Thats just an opinion.

reply

Liked both, but I'd stick to the original in Italian... it's culturally closer to my heart... =)

I only saw the US remake and I quite liked it. The way the movie dealt with feelings was very subtle. Anyway, I don't agree with people saying Paul Haggis [the screenwriter of The Last Kiss] took al the emotions out of the script. They just weren't very obvious to find. Maybe that's a big difference with the Italian version [as Italian emotions tend to be rather extravert], but again I wouldn't know as I haven't seen it yet.

Italian one, though the US is not that bad, at all. I find the original version kinda more aggressive, and I like it. I somehow feel that with the US remake, they made it with a "US touch", I mean, it feels more American, characters, life, the behaviors etc.

I'm not quite sure, but I think I prefer the original.

I watched it first some years ago without knowing the film. And I have to say, the movie was really great, it had such a real and more important a fresh tone. It was very entertaining, heartfelt and sooo emotional. "L'Ultimo Bacio" really captured the essence and the feelings that people have in their relationships.

The movie was so deeply honest, I liked it really much.

So, now I watched the remake. I had high expactations to it, because I loved the original and I also adored "Garden State" with Zach Braff who is a fantastic actor and director.

But finally, I was slightly disappointed with the final result. The acting is most of the time great, surprisingly I was particularly overwhelmed by Casey Affleck's performance. Jacinda Barrett was great, Braff was fine too again. So, you can say the casting was very well-done, same thing with the wonderful soundtrack, but the film was basically just a copy without real inventions.

It's great that they mostly kept the tone of the original, but there is just a lack of ideas. But nevertheless I enjoyed "The Last Kiss" throughout, it's a good film.

So, finally:
L'Ultimo Bacio (2001): 8/10
The Last Kiss (2006): 7/10

Original Italian version far superior in all aspects.

Original Italian version was definitely much much better. The feeling of the movie, the chemistry between the characters; it was simply great.

I just saw the american version it was painful to watch. It sucked so bad, the acting, false emotions ahhhh and the fact that they are trying to portray italian culture as american. It was just remade too closely i just hated it.
