Please help, missed the beginning

Hi, this was just on Chiller channel. I came in at the point where they had their powers and Zach was showing off in class. Can anyone please tell me the beginning, and where the powers came from? Who was the guy they took Zach to when he was brain-zapped? Thanks a lot! I liked this movie!
