This film should have been much, much shorter.

This one needed more extensive editing to bring it in around 100 minutes or less. I enjoy long films when the story is good and engaging, but this one dropped the ball (so to speak). The whole sub-plot (main plot?) regarding Morris' high school team should have been shortened the most. This was the least interesting and contrived part of the film. It was the Bad News Bears all over again - been there, seen that. This movie should have concentrated more on his time getting into the majors, not the kiddies getting into the playoffs - boooooooring!

This movie dragged badly and was so utterly predictable as to be a complete waste of time and celluloid. If there were to be a "Rookie Part 2", they'd better rate it NC17 and focus on groupies and orgies and parties, and leave the kiddos at home!

Either way, this film has already been made twice - the first time it was called "Bad News Bears" and the second time it was "Bull Durham". Such originality these days. I guess "American Idol - The Movie" can't be far behind. :(

The plot regarding the high school time was integral to the movie; the only reason Morris tried out was because of a bet with the kids. It would have been impossible to leave out.
If you're saying they should have CHANGED the plot, well then it wouldn't really be based on a true story anymore.

I'm saying they should have placed the most emphasis and time on his getting to the majors, not the kids playing high school ball. Te be honest, though, it's now been a couple of weeks since I've seen this flick and since it was so forgettable anyway, it doesn't matter much to me what they should have done with it. It might have been semi-entertaining if they would have stayed with the adult's story more.
