Was MM / IC causing everything (spoilers).....

Not sure if this subject has been brought up before. But, were The Mothman / Indrid Cold doing all of those events they were warning the others about? My instinct tells me yes, just in keeping with the characters in the movie. They didn't generate any positive vibes with me, anyhow. But, if they were good, and warning others of what was about to happen, what did Mothman / Indrid Cold expect them to do? Why tell someone from West Virginia, that there's going to be an earthquake in Ecuador?

Very good movie though, and even more creepy that it was based on true events.

Watch the movie again. This is specifically address by Leek. The mothmman/Indrid Cold was suppose be some other worldly/dimensional being, or angel. They could see the future to some extent. Leek explained it when they were in the city, and he uses the window cleaner as an example of someone who has a view "further down the road". If you take that with the story the cop tells about drowning and hearing someone call out "wake up number 37" it kind of implies that the mothmen are there to assist the dead when they cross over. As for why Ingrid keeps toying with Richard Gere character, that is also address by Leek. He says specifically "You noticed him, and he noticed that you noticed". Ingrid also says something like "We met before, you just didn't know to what to look for". It is implied that the mothmen are watchers, overseeing the last days of the soon to be doomed. He was there before Mary Kline died, he was there before the bridge collapsed.

First, Mothman and Indrid Cold are two separate entities. Second, they weren't the cause of anything. Keep in mind that the movie is a fictionalized version of something that supposedly actually happened.

The bridge collapse did actually happen, December 15,1967. It was the Silver Bridge, crossing the Ohio River from Point Pleasant W. VA, to Gallipolis,in Ohio. People did report seeing Mothman like things for a year prior to the event, but not after. Actually 46 people died, not 36.

In the movie, Leek said tbeir motivations aren't human, then goes on to say he has no idea why they appear. He says traumatized people are the only ones "sensitive" enough to see them. Then he said whatever brought John to Point Pleasant brought him there to die.

I didn't see anything in what Mr. Leek said, nor in any of the occurrences, that would lead me to believe the creatures were benevolent in any way, and I don't feel they intended to help anyone who was going to die in any way. YMMV.
