does anyone think this movie couldve been so much better?

Given the highly intriguing story of the mothman of point pleasant? I mean come on this movie basically could've had its script cut out for it. Don't get me wrong, there are some aspects of this movie that are excellent, and a couple of scenes that are full of tension and suspense but I just think this could've been so much better if it had have followed the source material more closely.

Dear Warden, You were right. Salvation lies within.

I agree! While I loved the cinematography, the story and plot was ridiculously dull. I didn't find this scary at all. What a waste of time.

I thought the same thing! There is so much for them to work with regarding mothman- I expected better plotwise.

Had it simply followed the book it would've been terrifying. There are huge subplots simply left out -- the MIB stuff is particularly disturbing. My guess is the producers (perhaps foolishly) decided that the Will Smith movies diluted any impact that particular subplot might have had.

I strongly agree. Better world building, replace the bland Richard Gere, it could have been a better film. As it stands, it's just a boring mish mash of incoherence.

Yes, much better.

The whole thing just does not seem to "fit together" and is a bit of a broken tapestry of weird images and incoherent scenes strung together.

So many elements of this film are just "out of place" and the whole thing feels a little bit flat. This does not make for very compelling viewing.

Shame really, the story had the potential to make a cracking film.

"No I don't wonder Marty. The world needs bad men, we keep the other bad men from the door".

I thought so. The real story upon which the film is based is actually very creepy. The idea for a film was a good idea, but it just wasn't that well-done. Roger Ebert called it unfocused and meandering, and I agree. It was legitimately creepy; I just feel it could have been done better.

Anyway I rated it 6/10. Not bad, but not great either.

There was a scene in which the town turns out to watch a lightshow put on by UFOs, but they cut the budget by One million dollars

The big scary 'WOOOSH" as the MOTHMAN title emerges was kind of juvenile
having sex, with a relator nearby, was dumb as was the "We wanted to see if we had enough closet space" comment
Telling your wife to speed on icy roads was dumb
The all too obvious "36! Wake up number 36" was dumb

the rest was OK, too bad they cut out the UFO scenes

they "Y" symbol of the MOTHMAN was cool until they hammered us over the head with it, like we were too stupid to get it
