Utterly Ridiculous

So a man past middle age dives from a bridge, on Christmas Eve, in freezing water to save a woman? He doesn't drown or develop hyperthermia? Get real. Also, why did the people in the cars on the bridge continue to just sit there while cable after cable snapped, the bridge shook and rocked and the sreet below was ripping apart? I know Gere saved some by warning them but still... Lame.

I din't know you could develop 'hyperthermia' after a dip in freezing water.
Anyways, there were emergency vehicle on the scene shortly after with paramedics that attended to the injured and those in shock.

For God's sake, it's just a movie...sit back and enjoy !

You can survive for a few minutes in "freezing" water. It's not exactly freezing, btw, it's at least a couple of degrees above 0°c.
I live in Iceland and people here sometimes swim in the ocean at winter for a few minutes, just for gags.
Hypothermia won't be a problem unless you're either naked or wearing wet clothes, once you're out. If you've got a towel and a new set of clothes (which he had) then you're absolutely fine.

Talking about ocean in winter, I recently watched a movie from Iceland named The Deep aka Djúpiða (based on actual events) about a guy that survived for hours in the atlantic (water ~ 3°), maybe you seen it or heard about it too?

Supposed to be a very special case, interesting story and well made movie though!
