I haven't seen this film yet, I was just reading the plot and wondered: is this movie based on Maupassant's novel "Bel Ami"? Does anybody know? I could be totally wrong in that, just curious...

I dont think so, why do you ask? To my knowledge, Bel Ami was more of a ruthless rakish type character.

The original title was to be "Creolmultion I have Known". Guess we know why they changed it.
