Great film...overlooked!! !!

I just thought it needed to be said...does anyone else agree? It's just unbelievable how good this is...

reply

I agree completely. The first few reviews I saw of this film trashed it so thoroughly I almost didn't give it a chance. I'm very glad I watched it in spite of them.

reply

Watched it last night. It was quality. Nice script, fine performances, and Mick Jagger's best turn yet!

reply

Yes. One of the best I've ever seen...and I see a lot of movies of all sort of genres. JM

reply

I always like to see Andy Garcia ina good role and this is one of them. Mick Jagger and James Coburn were great too. This film was much better than people gave it credit for. Depressing, but great film.

It would be impossible to overrate this film. It was really really bad. It was entirely predictable, gratingly preachy, and poorly acted. That is not to say that the acting was not believable, but this is a film that was about characters, and none of the characters were multi-dimensional or engaging. Seriously, this movie was really bad. The first time I saw it I walked out after 15 minutes, and the second time, believing that a second chance was only fair, I finished it, and my opinion has not changed. This is a remarkable stinker of a film, and I am truly glad that the second time I saw it was free, or I would be asking for damages...

Are there any movies you like? I didn't see any positive ratings under your user name.

if you overrate a film then you are saying that it is better than it actually is. that should be easy to do if you think the movie is bad which you obviously think this one is. therefore i think what you mean to say is that it is impossible to underrate this film, but of course if you said that you would be wrong, because it is really quite good.

reply

Absolutely. Mick Jagger and James Coburn are excellent.

Definitely one of the all-time greats. I agree with roc-19: the scenes between Mick Jagger and Anjelica Huston are spare, taut, elegant, and extraordinarily rich (what a couple of pros!!!)

reply

For being 30 days in production, I'd say they did a remarkable job.

The cast/crew/director/writer should be proud to call this theirs.

I thought the movie was great. It is one of those movies that I refused to watch and happened on it one day on TV and got hooked. It was a pleasant surprise.

reply

i have never been more disappointed by a movie. the opening scene in the bookshop was wonderful but it all went downhill from there. poorly acted, poorly edited (i think this is the main culprit for the pervading sense of melodrama), poor everything. except mic jagger. his fragile performance was the only pleasant surprise.

reply

I thought it was an amazing film--not only for the story, which was compelling, but because of the casting. Garcia was fine, as always, but I think it was the supporting cast that made this film--starting with Jagger. I didn't even realize it was him at first--his performance was perfection. And Michael Des Barres! Wow! Huston, Coburn, Margulies and Williams--all were amazing.

I really got the sense these were real people. And I agree with other comments that the Jagger-Huston scenes were some of the best acting I've ever seen. Thay both have a subtlety that brought their pain to life--but not in an over-the-top way.

Bravo.

I thought it was an interesting story and the performances by Garcia and Jagger were good, but it wasn't played out or executed well. It reminded me of one of those sappy Lifetime Original Movies with its sappy music and the directions it went in.

i agree with a previous poster that jagger and coburn were excellent.

I just saw it again for the second time (saw it last June or July), and it was great the first time and better the second time when you know what's coming and you can see the hints you missed.

I can't believe what a great job Phillip Jayson Lasker did with the script. I hope he's got a few more in the pool looking for producers. The cast was great, and I thought Mick Jagger was excellent. I can't imagine why this didn't get more raves.

reply

I had never heard of this film until it showed up on the On Demand movie selection. I couldn't believe how good it was either. Great cast.... Mick Jagger, James Coburn and Andy Garcia were great. Nice surprise and very enjoyable.
