Why was this movie made?

this is one of those movies that are way too childish for anyone over 12 but younger than that probably wont get any of the jokes.
all in all this movie was terrible although giamatti had some good acting in there

reply

I disagree. I was 16 when I saw it, and I liked it a lot.

reply

EEEWWW you like this garbage?

This movie is a piece of crap! It made me hate everyone who acted in it (except for John Chau, he's awlays cool)!

This movie is totally lame and should be burned!

Me and a couple of friends saw it, we took out younger syblings... and cousins and stuff... AND WE ALL HATED IT!!!!

Why on Earth would a group of cast and crew members decide to taunt a writer only becuase he's mean? Why just don't quit, they are gonna get fired anyways!

And woah! Frankie Muniz only did this all so his dad will belive that he wasen't lying, the guy is a *beep* liar! If he didin't want to be called a liar, he shouldin't LIE!!!!

The whole movie dosen't make any sense and has a very bad written storyline!

PS
Do They actully make Teaser Trailers BEFORE even being curtain that they are going to make the movie.... because that's what happens in this movie....

...also, Frankie Muniz gives a poor play and so does that Ginatti guy who played the bad guy... this movie totally sucks dick!

atleast that's my opinion.

Why make Wolf miserable? Because that's EXACTLY what he's done to every single person he's come in contact with! Not only is he mean, he's sleazy, cruel, heartless, and all around, a jerk! Sure, it's not the best thing to come out of Universal (and far from it), but then again, only one movie can claim that title. I'm not saying that this is an absolutely awesome movie, but I think it's pretty good, and it definitely doesn't totally suck, as you so non-eloquently put it. I wouldn't give it a 10, or even an 8, maybe more like a 6 or 7, but it's not absolutely horrible like you make it out to be.

PS. I don't think they do make the trailers before, but sometimes scenes that are in a trailer end up getting cut before the movie is finished completely, it depends on how well the shoot goes, if that scene wasn't that great in comparison, out it goes.

Oh, well then of course. Since you and your friends hated it, everyone should, right? That makes sense.

reply

The film didn't make any sense and didn't have any kids magic. Making it a sucky and a terrible film.

"Since you and your friends hated it, everyone should, right?"
When did I say that? When people say the movie wasn't made for me and my age (I was 12 when I saw the movie), I was just saying that none of the younger kids that saw the film with us liked it either. This film suffered from Home Alone-idus. A story stretched to unbelivity and features a kid always defeting full grown bad guys and going "Yes!", but instead of seeing a young, cute and wacky kid like the former Maculay Caulkin, we get a deformed Frankie Muniz, who dosn't want his parents to think he's a liar (even though he is as in the film he lies a lot!).

How did it not make sense?

No one in their right mind would team up to get a guy fired like that. Also no kid would find away to Hollywood to attack the person.

It was crap.

Frankie Muniz being famous.

Why not? If you were that pissed off, you might.
They didn't do anything THAT drastic.

reply

Doing so might get you blacklisted in Hollywood, for people like the old stunt guy, you would know of those dangers and as well as more (which is why he never talked back to him) but yet he helps a kid who wants his dad to belive him, when in all fairness his fahter should never belive him as he's always lying in the first place.

If that guy would be mean to those people and were just Crew people that are easlily replacable, I would either talk to the union of moving me to another set or just let it go.

I'm 18 and came home from a shift at work tired and for some reason plopped on the couch and watched this movie. It was the only thing on, and I watched it because Paul Giamatti was in it. It wasn't too bad. The ending was really corny, but Giamatti was entertaining. He's probably the best thing about the movie.

reply

I actully hated his performance so much that I would refuse to watch something with him in it. Just recently, I was getting eager to watch American Splendor since I was a Crumb, Radloff and Pekar fan. My brother (who saw Big Fat Liar and had the same hate as me) spit on the movie when I brought it home. But in the end we watched it and loved it.

Though I still hate Giamatti's performance in this film, he is probably the most entertaining and best thing in the entire movie.

You know what, this movie shouldn't be burned, you should be. How dare you say any of that. Paul Giamatti and Frankie Muniz are incredible actors, Amanda Bynes, and every other actor and actress in this kicked ass. And when I think about it, I really want them to kick your ass. Go to Hell movie critic.

Pfff. Frankie Muniz couldn't kick anynone's ass and you know it. Only for implying that and saying that he's a good actor makes me doubt the fact that you have the credibility to express your feelings. Since you are either a 13 year old Muniz Fanatic (then most likeley a girl) or some old Malcolm fanboy who goes to conventions to get autographs from that guy in the wheelchair. Either way, you sicken me.

Let's work on our vocabulary, cupcake, before you try to give a movie review.
You obviously missed the memo, it's not supposed to be an Oscar-winning documentary; it's supposed to be a fun, tween comedy.

Jesus, settle down.

reply

"It's nice to see someone who has the intelligence of my garbage can rating a movie."
.... what the hell does that mean?

Are you using garbage as a metaphor, or are you saying that my intelligence is as much as your garbage.... if so, how would it rate a film? Or as you put it, can rating a movie.....?

That makes just as much sense as a movie sucking on a penis.

But then again, hypocrites who contradict the things they say are the worst.

And OH YES, they never wanted to make a GOOD movie... that's the worst excuse I've ever heard for a film being terrible.

"Yeah, well, the movie wasn't suppose to be good anyways...."

Seriously...?

Either you are a genius comedian, making fun of idiots who post like this, or you are in fact, an idiot. I would go with the first, because the other would make me just way too sad over your mental view over things.

Cupcake.

Judging by your writing, spelling, etc. when you wrote this, you were either just entering junior middle school, or a young English learner. So you probably didn't get the humor.
Although I quickly grew tired of seeing Giamatti in so many movies, I think he gave a good performance as someone we'd all hate, which seems to be his forte.
Anyway, now that your English has had so much time to improve, hopefully you can understand the humor in this movie. Maybe you can enjoy it with your kids one day.

reply

You are correct. I haven't seen the film since 2002 and my perception of it would most likely differ when/if I see it again.

Since watching this film, I've seen Giamatti in a couple of movies where I really liked his performance (he was really good in American Splendor and Man on the Moon). I also like his ventures into independent movies and comic book adaptations. And although I haven't seen the entire series, he seems to portray John Adams very well.

transongeist.com

reply

I was tempted to check out American Splendor at one time. I'll have to give him another chance. Thanks for your recommendations.
Another actor I got very tired of seeing was Saul Rubinek, although perfect in his role in Unforgiven, when he shows up in other movies, I think, not him again. Another is Stephen Tobolowsky, but he was funny in the Seinfield episode as the New Age "doctor," and perfect as the annoying Ned in Groundhog Day. It just seems the studios get stuck on one character actor in too many movies, whereas some aren't used enough, like Richard Farnsworth. Maybe they're relatives of the studio exects.

reply

I liked it a lot too. The reason that this was made: To get Amanda Bynes her first movie role. And to advertise Universal.

I originally saw this movie when I was 12. First time I ever saw Paul Giamatti. After seeing Sideways, I decided to return back to this movie, and compare the performance. His acting is so awesome, it's ridiculous. But, let me tell you, his performance was the only thing worth watching.

reply

I really like this movie. Very entertaining. Yes, I was in my 20's when I saw it and enjoyed it. Why was the movie made? Well, probably because everybody is different and find different things funny. Those of you that didn't like it, fine. Realize though that there are many that do like it and calling it crap or mega-crap isn't going to make us feel any differently about the film.

First time I saw this, a few years ago, I really liked it. I watched it again yesterday, and thought it was pretty crap. The jokes are all a bit rubbish - I laughed maybe once during the whole film. I thought it was pretty cliched and highly improbable (although it's a kid's movie, so thats more excusable).

I'm nearly 20 and I saw this movie for the first time tonight. I thought it was a lot of fun and a very enjoyable film. Usually I save watching kids movies for when I'm around younger kids, but I'm glad I was bored enough to watch this movie tonight. It has a really cute story and good actors and even a good message. Of course it's ridiculously unrealistic, but that's because it's supposed to be like a kid's imagination running wild. One of the better kids movies I've seen recently. It'd be great for a sleepover party.

Family films are a big money maker. Imagine this. A movie for kids is made. Kids see the advertisements and beg their parents to go to the movies. A family goes to see the movie at a local movie theater. They buy popcorn and drinks and candy. The movie studio has made money and so has the theater.

If you dont like it, dont watch it.

reply

Jesus christ, any ever heard of an opinion?
Some people will like this movie, some people I won't. I'm 17 and this is one of my favourite movies, it's in my DVD collection. I watched it yesterday actually, now I think about it and it still makes me laugh even though I've seen about a hundred times.
This movie doesn't appeal to you, so what? No need to go and take the piss out of the people who do, it's their choice if they like it, not yours.

reply

Why was this movie made?

To entertaion (kids). It's not that hard of a concept when you think about it.

reply

i thought the movie was okay, but a little bit childish.
