The Porn star thing didn't kill it for me, I think the two final acts of the film just ruin the great opening 40 minutes of the film imo. I would have got rid of Timothy Olyphant's manager and whole Danielle going back to porn arc, Olyphant is always great and nothing agasint his performance in this. But once Danielle's secret is out it just loses steam for me. And I feel the romance between Danielle and Matthew is way too rushed. Agreed the ending sucks too and whole they make a porn film themselves is stupid.
If the Director/Writer Luke Greenfield could have expanded that first 40 minutes out to first two acts of the film and put bit more heart and less slapstick/sex humour in it. I think this film could have been a lot better for it. I'm fine with the whole "oh she's a ex porn star" stuff, I would have taken it a bit more serious then the film does. I would have slowly build up their friendship to romance a bit more slower and then would have had them had a bit more time together as a couple before the reveal of her past comes out. I think the ending of him taking her to the prom is great (I would have got rid of her friends going with his two friends though) and I would have ended it there.
I think 6.7 is about right for the film, I'd have gone 6.3 with it myself. Elisha Cuthbert is likeable enough in the main role. Funny seen Paul Dano is this type of role as he's such a serious actor these days. Also Olivia Wilde, actually I would have liked to seen her take a swing at this material and make it feel more like her debut film as director, Booksmart. Emile Hirsch is very good. And even though I'm not a fan of his part of the film even Timothy Olyphant. It's just a film I think could have been a lot better.
