What does everyone think of Elvira's latest movie?

Hello, fellow Elvira fans, I bought the DVD October of last year, and I have to say I was disappointed in it. I prefer her 1988 film "Elvira, Mistress of the Dark" even though she herself seemingly dislikes that one.

On a 1 to 5 rating scale I would give it 2. I simply felt it was below Elvira's average when compared to her usual level of comedy.

I totally agree. This one was a flop. I understand Peterson wrote this one and made the character of Elvira more to how she wanted her rather than how she was written and directed in the past. She ruined the naive charm the character had established through the use of innocent statements with double meanings. This time Elvira is blatant and vulgar in her sex talk/jokes, and acts rather like a slut. If this is what Peterson wanted, she lacks objectivity in understanding what worked.

i liked the first movie better too(actually its one of my favorite movies of all time, as sad as that is).. but i still liked this movie quite a bit too.. with the first being a 10 id give this one an 8 or a 7.5

but what i REALLY wanna know is how the hell she managed not to age from the first movie to this.. she looks almost exactly the same!..
i keep having visions of her bathing in the blood of virgins or milk or something..

Before anyone slaps all the fault on Cassandra for this movie falling short they should know that it is not ENTIRELY her fault. Cowriter John Paragon bailed on Cassandra in the middle of the script. Scenes had to be changed and cut out and rewritten on the spur of the moment. Secondly, Cassandra was deathly ill through out the ENTIRE production of the film. She had some sort of walking pneumonia and when she wasn't busy trying not to hurl, cough and gag constantly she was trying to juggle the script details and O'Brien.

O'Brien, while perfect for the roll had a great deal of problems with the script. He seemed to have a little problem here and there with the fact that Elvira was saying things out of context for that time period. Which sadly didn't quite make sense considering that she was IN that time period.

Both Cassandra and Richard were heads of the show in previous work, so put them together and you'll have squabbling.

The main reason this film died (no pun intended) was because Elvira was always trashing pictures of this ilk. Starring in one just didn't add up. Her first film was a success because Elvira was a 'fish out of water' in the plot. Here she was a fish taken from one tank, and placed in another. You can only poke fun at a genre so much while being IN that genre.

REALLY? I had never heard that John had bailed on Cassandra. They seemed to be such a good writing team (having collaborated on the original Elvira). Do you know the circumstances? Have they patched things up?

I can believe Cassandra had her hands full. She and O'Brien equal 2 divas on the set

Personally, I prefer this movie to the original. I guess because I'm such a huge Vincent Price junkie.

She is more vulgar, however she's still charming.

I've been a fan of Elvira since I was a kid and when I saw "Haunted Hills" at Blockbuster this weekend, I had to rent it. I thought it was pretty funny! Maybe not on par with “Elvira, Mistress of the Dark,” but still really good. I laughed out loud a couple of times, especially when Richard O'Brien was on the screen. That man is too damn hilarious! And Elvira was gorgeous! It really is amazing how young she looks.

I understand they were trying to pay homage to Vincent Price. I know his movies were filled with innuendoes, but I think that's the ONLY part of him Elvira payed tribute to. I wonder if she knows that the innuendoes of Vincent Price's movies were...um...INNUENDOES. NOT blatant, vulgar humor, which does tend to get monotonous and boring. The only person who I think did Vincent Price any justice was the brilliant Richard O'Brien. God, that man is so sexy, he should be ILLEGAL! I actually fantasized about...well...I have some weird fantasies, man. Let's just leave it at that. Let your imagination wander. Did anyone else notice that the guy who played Dr. Bradley looked a Hell of a lot like Vincent Price? Even in the way he turned his head. I REALLY hate it when people try to do a Vincent Price voice in a movie. Face it people, there was only one master. Dr. Bradley looked almost exactly like him, but he sounded like Sean Connery. If anyone ever sees the House on Haunted Hill remake, Geoffrey Rush sounds like Humphrey Bogart. Um, maybe people should try to be creative with acting and interpret their character in their own way instead of trying to imitate Vincent Price.

that said , the actor playing dr.bradly was not spoofing price or connery. well maybe price in his "artistic" movments.but rather george sanders . listen to him . he's sending up geo. sandsers, you idiot.

I love Elvira. She's a tease. Sure, she gets infatuated here and there, but, mainly, she'll put men in their place if they get too close without her permission. Still, how can one resist when she looks so fine. She truly is a Mistress of the Dark, and, I love her. A couple weeks back, I decided that I wanted to purchase "Elvira, M.O.T.D." on dvd, since it was one of my big time rentals, and favorites, growing up. It was just so long since I had last seen it. I also remembered that a week or two prior, we were getting Starz Kids and Family on a free preview thing that Dish Network does. And, it was around 12 at night, and, I was tired, but, a film came on called "Elvira's Haunted Hills," and I really wanted to watch it, since I remembered seeing the box of it at the Movie Gallery rental store. Too bad I couldn't stay awake to get through it. I was just so tired. So, I decided that if I was going to purchase M.O.T.D, then, I should purchase Haunted Hills as well to make the Elvira movie collection complete. So, I went to Overstock.com, where I got them both for very reasonable prices. About a week later, they came in the mail. I was ecstatic. I watched M.O.T.D. first, b/c, well, it was so long since I last seen it, which was about 5 or so years ago when I was 15 or younger. Now, I'm 20, and, I see so many jokes in that film that I didn't realize when I was younger. It's just weird how naive and innocent we are when we're young. Still, it was quite funny and enjoyable. Later, I decided to pop in the Haunted Hills dvd, and, though I've never seen any of the Vincent Price movies Elvira was poking fun at, I still had a good time with that one as well. Both movie's are very different stories, with the very same, and, very fun Elvira. Loved both films.

I mean it is bad. Ya know. Like bad as in bad. Like, I'm bad, Jamal, you know it. -Elvira, M.O.T.D.

I thought this film was amazingly funny - a fantastic play on 'The Pit and the Pendulum' by Roger Corman with Elvira looking like she was having a great time.

Lots of people have compared this film to her first movie and said they preferred the first one, but i think they are two different kinds of films for two different moods, personally I could watch them both and take as much pleasure out of one or the other.

Yay Elvira - and looking fabulous as ever...I'm a veggie and i hope i keep my looks as good as she has lol.

I actally saw this BEFORE i saw the first movie (1988), I think this movie sometimes has pretty predictable and old jokes,
i think some of the humor is cheap and in bad taste, also that the older movie has more charasmatic and hip actors, and more viraity locations.
but overall i like "Elvira's haunted hills".

i don't mean to be singing, too many protest songs,
but i've got a few things on my mind, i'll try not to make it too long,
see those stripping girls, shakin their asses on MTV,
is that a music channel, or soft porn hoes to see?
see those office cats, like pimps counting all the money that they bring in,
behind the souless, behind the careless singing,
see those politicians, sweet talking, jiving and blaming each other,
when they walk back home, they must get slapped by their mothers,
see that mailman, he's gotta hurt his back carrying all that commercial around,
my packages gets delayed, but somehow the bills and commercial always gets in time,
see how the summers are getting too warm,
notice how the winters no longer are very cold,
enviromentalists are trying to get their voices heard,
beyond the noises of suckers all around that keeps on destroying the world,
there has to be some improvements made,
before it's too late.

I really liked it and picked up a copy yesterday, For a lowbudget flick --i thought it looked great ---the production values etc...The film itself --funny and a real throwback to the early Vincent Price horror films. Vincent Price would be proud...and Elvira is great in this.

I would give it a 3 and the first a 5. I loved the first one and the second was pretty average. She should do some more based on the first one and delve more into her powers and what her character came from.

I rather enjoyed this one. Elvira is still hot as Hell. The original is better though.
