Dreading the remake

I'm not at all convinced the Hollywood remake is a good idea, not least from the casting (the eternally over-rated Meryl Streep and a not very good Indian actress). The fact that Serrau is directing isn't much comfort either - after all, when George Sluizer remade his masterpiece Sporloos/The Vanishing the remake was dreadful and his career never recovered.

"Gentlemen, is this a great moment or a small one? I'm afraid I don't know."

I'm not convinced either. I don't really see how they will adapt the Algerian immigration background!

Remake: bad idea. It'd be better to just get a bunch of viewers to see the original damn movie, and to hell with the remake idea. All remakes do is waste everbody's time and money and lead to lots of bitching on these boards about how "the original was so much better," blah blah blah. So, forget the remake, just stick with marketing the original.

The entire context definitely has to be changed because this movie as it is only fits into the French background.
By the way you posted this in 2004 and I haven't heard of any remakes. Was the idea binned or did the remake not work at all?
