A very nice B-Movie

In terms of B-movie judgement I would give it 7 from 10.
I purchased the UK-DVD several years ago in Glasgow. On that edition is a interesting audiocommentary. Director Oblowitz names the influences and paragons for that movie. Terry Gilliams "Brazil", John Woo Action Sequences and second worldwar horrors. In loving memory to his jewish grandfather, who was chased by the nazis, he stages the vampires like a endangered species, hunted by the humans, living in vampire- ghettos. I found that pretty freaky. Finally Oblowitz flavoured his genre mix with a dark thirties look, where ever the small budget made it possible.
Maybe its far away from beeing a perfect movie, but its perfectly filled with creative ideas.

I do think that movies like this need to be encouraged. Iwould have given it a 6 or 7 if it was a movie with a good budget. But I gave it a 10 ;) yes, maybe a bit unfair but movies like this deserve some discount & since others weren't kind I will be more than a little generous.

Wanted to add, wonder if True Blood stole the synthetic blood idea from this film :)

Glad to see people being kind to this film -- it's one of my vampire favourites :)

I first saw it shortly after it initially came out, and fell instantly in love with it. Granted, I'm a fan of both Adrian Paul and Bai Ling, so I may have been a tad biased, at the start.

Yes, some of the acting can be a bit over the top -- but, I'm inclined to think it might have been (at least in part) intentional, given the speculative fiction setting and theme, and the noir-inspired style. Watching many of the actors in other roles, their own styles and flow are generally much different from their performances in this film.

And, for the budget...

I simply find it beautiful -- particularly being a gothic diesel punk and a rather big fan of noir. I recommend it to people, whenever I can.

I like the movie, and love Adrian Paul, but some of the acting is cringe-worthy.

I enjoyed it and would recommend it...

That's interesting. I never made the connection that the vampires were being persecuted by the humans much like the Jews were persecuted by the Germans.

Yeah, I agree this was quite the surprise as far as production design , script, and the acting. I think I could place this with one of the better vampire films in the genre. (9 out of 10)
