Why does the king call Jamal 'Skywalker'?

where'd he get that from?

o_O

reply

Yeah I totally didnt understand that either. But then I thought it was funny how he just seemed to call it him for no reason. Maybe a scene was cut out which explained it?

When Jamal is first told that he is being taken to see the King one of the staff askes what would he like to be introduced as. In the next shot the helpful staff guy introduces Jamal with the surname Skywalker in a boxing anouncer style voice.

reply

Yeah I guess you are right, but seeing as he was going to be known as Skywalker by everyone for the ENTIRE movie after that point, they should have made that clearer I think. Like in BackToTheFuture when they call him Calvin Klein you can understand why and it's well explained. Also he works in a Medieval theme park therefore somehow gets transported back to Medieval England so that sort of makes sense, but when he goes to Gladiator times at the end, wheres the link there? Still, a very amusing movie and probably the funniest ending I have ever seen (although I think I thought most of it was funny cos of how ridiculous it was).

reply

I believe Jamal's actual last name is supposed to be Walker. I think they say that at one point.

"Sky" is apparently a sort of nickname he has. He must have told the messenger to say Sky Walker, and he also gets his royal tailors to whip up shirts that say "SKY" on the front.

Actually, I had to watch back to the future about a thousand times before I figured out why they called him Calvin Kline. Skywalker in this movie seems about as clear, and a little funnier.

He is introduced basketball style and the announcer even says "starting at guard" or something to that effect. Moron.

Everyone knows point guards and power fowards are weight classes in boxing. Hahaha.

LMAO at this whole thread. Okay, let's clear this up:

1. The character's name is Jamal "Sky" Walker, likely a nickname he earned from playing basketball in high school or college.

2. "If he's a basketball player why would he box"? Are you kiddin? Believe it or not, some people learn to box not for sport, but for self-defense. Not everybody lives in one of those neighborhoods where you can leave your key in the ignition and nobody will bother it except to move it out of a no-parking zone for you.

3. A guard is not a type of boxer. D'oh. A guard is a basketball position. Jamal was introduced as "Starting at Small Forward," however.

reply

lol because his name is Jamal Walker
his basketball nickname was probally Jamal "Sky" Walker
and that is how he was introoduced to the king

reply

WHOA K so, its so obvious that it isn't even funny. When he is formally introduced the guy says "starting at small forward for Inglewood High" So Jamal Walker played basketball in High school CLEARLY cuz if the introduction was just him wanting it to be basket ball related the guy wouldn't have said a high school name. He clearly was able to do some serious dunks, and thus had the nickname Skywalker cuz his last name was walker, and he can walk in the sky LOL as you can see when he does the spinning inhuman basketball sword attack at the end on Percy.
