Remake???

The same plotline... sent back in time
The same time in history... 14th Century
The same 'sorceror' power and relation to controlling the sun...
(Not to mention, the same colour as the main character, no offence)...

This movie sounds a lot like "A Knight in Camelot" with Whoopi Goldberg.

I only saw the last part of that movie, but from what I can make out, "Black Knight" seems to follow in the footsteps of "A Knight in Camelot".

Does anybody agree with me?

reply

i seen both and yep I totaly agree with you!

The most early form of this plot I have seen is "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthurs Court" staring Bing Crosby.

I couldn't watch Bing Crosby in "Conneticut Yankee," he was so badly miscast (sp?), but the book was a epic "sleeper" for Twain. It wasn't his usual genre and never got as much attention as it deserved. A great deal more thought to detail and reality went into Conneticut Yankee than into these light fluffy flicks. There was some heart rending drama as well. Defintely an epic.

Authenticity doesn't mean much in making these light, fluffy flicks. I understand Goldberg's "Knight in Camelot" and Lawrence's "Black Knight" are more or less the same flick with a different cast. Comparing either one to "Conneticut Yankee" is an insult to Twain, who was careful about detail and authenticity, especially "human" authenticity, regarding how people would really behave in an impossible situation. As for the two remakes, Lawrence's story was specifically placed in the year 1328, during the so called High Middle Ages, while "Camelot" dates to between 475 and 525. Arthur was an early Celtic chieftain who came to prominence as Rome evacuated Britain during its decline.

these are all loosley baised on A Conneticut Yankee in King Authur's court. Several other films such as A kid in King Author's Court also share the same story line.

reply

From the trailer, I thought the humour was ripping off Army of Darkness.

It was also done as "UFO: Unidentified Flying Oddball" which was reissued as "A Spaceman in King Arthur's Court." At least the Bing Crosby version had the benefit of being fresh at the time.

p.s.: why Bush again??......thank you all for the terrorism....

reply

Yes! Although I must say I prefer Whoopi's version a lot better.
In a strange way, things were better explained. She was a scientist, for example and used her knowledge to try and "improve" the situation. We all know how it worked out but I liked the theme of social and economic equality that she tried to project. While Martin is pretty funny, it is what it is I guess.

This movie also sounds like something I watched in middle school...although probably less low-brow. I THINK it was made in the 90s...had a black main character who ended up in medieval England partly because he lived in a neighborhood in LA that had the same name as some famous English place. Uh...can't remember much else about it besides that it seemed pretty good and cheesy. Anyone have a clue as to what this is?
