So rewatchable

This is like my guilty pleasure film. Honestly I love it so much I've rewatched it loads of times. I'll happily get back from uni and just watch this randomly. No shame

Same here (the rewatch part), I rewatched it many times

Why is it a guilty pleasure? I love BHD and I've seen it countless times, it's in my top 10 and I feel no guilt. Actually I'm thinking about watching it again tonight, that's why I'm here.

It's a guilty pleasure for me because its like the opposite of an intellectual war movie like the thin red line or jarhead, it's like 2 hours of shooting and explosions.

*beep* love it though

reply

okay, I get it. But I don't think it's any less intellectual than the thin red line for example, it's just very different approach to make a war movie. Both black hawk down and the thin red line are amazing, 10/10 movies in my book. Didnt relly like Jarhead that much.

Yeah I totally agree with you man. Black Hawk is the kind of film you put on when your hungover on a sunday. Thin Red Line is a thursday night tearjerker

couldn't have said it better myself! I've actually watched BHD quite a few times when I'm hungover.

The best part about rewatching it is the sheer number of bit/character actors in it who *beep* blew up in later years.

The payoff for slogging through an hour of boring is never worth it.

Ridley Scott is maybe the best director of this types of films. Unfortunately there's just something about BHD that keeps it from achieving a status as a classic. If only they'd tweaked the story a bit.

reply

Not really my guilty pleasure but i get what you're saying. Jarhead was so annoying. This, Act of Valor, Lone Survivor, We Were Soldiers and 13 Hours are my kinda movies. Even Platoon because the actors in thwt actually went through their own version of actors' basic training.

Black Hawk Down is so good. I like the others you mentioned too except I think Acto of Valor is for sure the weakest. Acting is horrendous in that one (I know they are not pro actors but still). 13 hours surprised the schit out of me. Very good.

As I said on another thread, I watched this countless times when I bought it on DVD in 2002. I was 13 at the time, which was one of the last years where I repeatedly watched movies that I just purchased, and it was my go to movie on weekends for a few months.

I need to re-watch it again soon, it has been almost 10 years since I last watched it.

As others have mentioned this is definitely no guilty pleasure. The more times I see it, the more times I'm reminded how technically, it's just such a really wonderfully edited and constructed film, managing to tell a compelling story about a real life battle from a number of different perspectives. Great work Ridley!🐭
