fired

Does anyone have an idea as to why Lee got fired in the first place? He does a great job and from how Danny is portrayed Lee is far superior to him. Also do you think the producer would immidiately fire him again after the film was shown? Lee should have demanded a new contract as soon as the promise was made otherwise what is there to stop the producer from dumping again?

I'm fairly certain they never said why he was fired.

I think he did; we just didn't see it.

I thought that perhaps he was fired, at least partially, because of the scandal between Eddie, Gwen, and Hector, and his inability to correct for it.

The film never really covered why Lee lost his job. Lee mentions he'd been fired "last week" and Eddie and Gwen had been separated for at least a year according to Kiki, so I don't think that had anything to do with it. My theory goes like this:

* Lee and Kingman Sr. worked together for years, liked each other, had a bond

* Kingman Sr. died, Kingman Jr. took over the studio

* Kingman Jr. and Lee couldn't stand each other, didn't work well together, so eventually Kingman Jr. pulled rank and fired Lee, replacing him with newbie Danny.

Either that or the studio was losing money without any recent hits, and a veteran press agent like Lee simply commanded too high a salary. Maybe it was just a cost-cutting thing.
