Wait...what?

Were they high when they wrote the plot to this movie?

First off all, Hope turned down her friend by saying "you're my friend, you're the person who always makes me laugh" and later tells Sam "You make me laugh, that's the sure way to a girl's heart". What?

But more important:
So after being assaulted by her lifelong friend, Hope didn't want to be friends with Sam anymore because she thinks men always want to be more than friends.
Then she turns to her friend Annie to help her figure out if Sam really just wants to be friends, and if he is, he is then worthy of being loved by her. If she also loves him, then why does she need to know if he wants more? She wants more!
So, then when Sam loves Annie (her friend!) and still wants to help her because she's his friend, and is even willing to jeopardize his relation with Annie, only then does she believe he only wants to be friends, and then she tells him that that makes her love him. He then immediately forgets about Annie for a period (and thereby he proves that he did want more)
What?

So basically, Sam had to prove he didn't want anything more, to be able to get anything more? What?!

Is the message of this movie: "women are manipulative bitches"?
