Thought George was selfish

So he had 4 months left to live and he doesnt tell his ex wife and kid that. Of course its a difficult subject. But instead he could have said the reason why he wanted to build the house was cause he got cancer and it sort of put things into perspective. He could have lied and said like its curable, like the pills are for the treatment and it can get better. I thought not telling them anything for a long period of time was selfish.

I don't see there him lying to them would be any less selfish. He even says, "I was trying to make you love me." He was trying to reconnect with his son without using his impending death as a crutch to try and make the son love him. It may have been selfish but lying would have been more selfish in my opinion.

He didn't want them to feel forced to re-connect with him because they felt guilty or sad about him dying, it wouldn't have been a real re-connection that's why he waited until he got them all back before he told them.

And

He could have lied and said like its curable, like the pills are for the treatment and it can get better.

How would lying to them be any better?

A good father and a good outlaw can't settle inside the same man.
