Most chilling Moment

As one of the darkest (i think) Zelda game. There have been some moments that just sent chills up your spine. Personally I think when you are on the moon, playing hide and seek with all the kids, you go up to the kid wearing Majora's Mask. He asks, "will you play with me?"
Then he is like, "OK, let's play good guys and bad guys... I'll be the good guy, and you be the bad guy..." creepy.

I also think it is creepy when you defeat the skull kid, and the Mask floats off of him and calls him a puppet.

I remember when I was nine or ten, I was playing MM at night, and when he picked up link and started shaking him, I jumped back from the TV. I couldn't get to sleep at first, and didn't even pick up the game for three years.

As beautiful as Anju and Kafei's reuniting was, it was also depressing and eerie.. Considering it takes place like.. an hour before the destruction of the world.

And you know.. Kafei is a child.

One of the creepiest moments for me was the first time I saw that sequence where it shows skull kid digging through the happy mask salesguy's bag-o-masks when he is on the ground asleep or something. The first time I saw this I thought skull kid beat the crap out of the mask guy or knocked him out or something and then went ravaging through his mask collection. Looked VERY disturbing to me!

I think the whole idea with time constantly ticking downwards so its only three days until that evil looking moon crashes into Termina. It shows you whats at stake near the beginning when you get to the third day and you use the Ocarina with seconds left so you kinda know whats at stake if you let time drag on elsewhere in the game. THAT music on the last day is also really freaky. Remember when you reunited that couple and that music played and you couldn't wait to get out and use the Ocarina?

Also I found the whole of the intro really dark but compelling.

I totally agree with you.

Was just reading the latest issue of Edge magazine and they have a huge Legend of Zelda feature (on the run up to Twlight Princess), and it brought back a lot of memories.

Majora's Mask I think is the darkest Zelda game to date, and major credit to Nintendo for trying something different.

The questions the children on the moon ask you seem totally out of place, yet equally poignant. Almost as if they're speaking to you, the player, rather than Link.

The Mask Salesman is also pretty creepy. The music in the Clocktower when you see him is fantastic and adds to the atmosphere.

reply

Anyone see Romani after the abduction? Now THAT's creepy. Poor girl

The Gibdo-man in the basement.

Gibdos and ReDeads and Stalkids (oh my!)

The idea that Majora's Mask possessed the Skull Kid.

The Happy Mask Salesman (can't leave him out)

The moon (can't leave that out either)

The way all the citizens of Clock Town are all scared witless on the Final Day/Night.

The entire cinema of Link confronting Skull Kid on top of the tower and calling the giants, Skull Kid going into convulsions and passing out, and then the Mask going up into the Moon and...yeah, all that.

The Majora's Mask Boss Room. I am still looking for this as a wallpaper for my computer.

I love this game because the plot is so dark and creepy, but if I were to actually sit down and play it without being able to cheat somehow, I'd go mad.

Anybody ever fail to beat the 72 hour deadline, and then you see the moon crushing Termina and then it shows Link get blown away. Now that was scary. They thought the moon was just supposed to destroy Clock Twon (according to some people) but you can actually see it crushing all of Termina. That really scared the sh-t out of me when I first saw it.

If you go to the observatory for the Moon's Tear on the first or second days, the Skull Kid will be on top of the clock tower, and he'll shake his butt at you and jump off. But if you get the Moon's Tear on the third day, he'll just do this creepy little head-twitch.

1.The kids on the Moon-they ask really weird questions, and even though they're talking to Link, you feel they're talking to you too because you sort of ARE Link in a way. You control where he goes and what he says,it's scary.

2.Accepting Death-Those poor people. It's really is sad to see them go though that.Especialy when Anju waits for Kafei, even though she knows she'll probably die along with him.In my opinion,THAT is showing someone that you love them.No flowers,no poems or songs, just a extreamly selfless act is more than enough.

3.The Masks-Even though Skull Kid's a troublemaker,he doesn't deserve anything that's happening to him.I think it's sad to know someone has control of you,but no matter how hard you try,you can't get away from it.Another thing about the masks that scares me is their origins. They don't tell you.And that lets your imaginanition take over, and you think of some of the sickest things.

Everything about this game was dark and depressing. But it was so brilliant. I mean, I never felt so moved by a video game before in my life. The Zelda games are genius.. and this one, well.. it pretty much ranks up there as one of the best. Whoever 'wrote' the game.. wow.. major kudos to them.

I really felt creeped out when Link is pulled up into the moon and suddenly instead of the dark creepy world you expect.. you get this bright beautiful field with a single tree sitting on a hill. And wandering around on the field is small children. It all just seemed very... I don't know.. eerie.. not right. And the things the children were saying kinda freaked me out. But when you speak to the 'majora' child and he looks upon you as though you are some bad guy.. and fights you thinking he is good and so on. It's just kinda depressing in some ways.

The music was amazing in this game. It helped hold onto that dark atmosphere. The music in the clock tower still haunts me. If I hear I begin to like.. freak out lol. Majora's theme was pretty spooky as well.

This game was a masterpiece. It deserves so much more credit than it recieved. I mean, I may even like it more than Ocarina of Time (I know, I'm talking crazy..)

One of us had to accept the agony. He was always the stronger.

I loved this game for its dark story and sad moments. the only game that can actually make me cry (im a softy ok?)

- The little girl and her dad in Ikana Canyon... Yanked at my heart strings.
-Inside the moon the kids just running about and Majora just sitting there all depressed. And that the kids look like the happy mask salesman.
-the moon crashing at the end of the three day cycle. I'v only seen it once, never wanted to see it again.
-the happy mask salesman in general (hes everywhere!)
-the song of healing always makes me want to cry.. just the knowledge of what it was used for made such an impact
-Music on the third day. Iv gotten used to it but when i was first playing the game.. man
-majora turns into that thing that dances and has wierd bg music. That was pretty random
-the whole anju and kafei thing...
-The captured monkey in the Deku Palace. When you defeat Oldolowa on i think it was the second or third day. or either one of them i cant remember. and you go into the kings palace, the monkey will be hanging over the boiling pot and if you talk to one of the deku guards the monkey will go in the pot squirming and come out not moving with its eyes open.
-romani and the aliens.
-the all night mask
-the fact htat the mask didnt fully possess the skull kid until a little later (he takes the mask off in the beginning scene to look at link but then at the end of the game he cant take it of.... hes just swinging there....)
-the emo guy with the chickens. hes not really creepy, he just makes me sad
-on the third day what happens to people through the course of the three days. wheather you helped them or not. and the swordman guy when you chop the wooden pannel at the back of the room hes just there shaking and crying....
-I love the whole mysitery of the game. Who is fierce diety. what was the full purpose of the mask, other than dark rituals. Who made the mask....
-Majoras insane sadistic nature. He's not doing evil for power, he just likes hurting people.

The most creepiest thing about this game is that big scary moon, it scares the hell out of my fiancee, she covers her eyes when the moon appears. Well think about it, there's this huge scary evil face up in the sky and you would prefer to stay indoors like that skulltula cave in great bay. The most creepiest view of the moon is that area when you race those beavers for a bottle and when you're at pinnacle rock and when it opens its mouth wide open after Majora's mask posesses the moon. It's not so scary when you're in Snowhead because, you can't see its face.

Wow, I haven't played this game in so long but there are a few things that came to mind when I read the question. I woul dhave to say the creepies things for me were:

1) The Moon. Good God, the look on that thing's face was scarey as hell!
2) The moon crashing. This only happened to me once, and I made sure I always saved so I never had to see it again.
3) The part in the Inkana temple where you had to flip the world upside down. So basically if you fell off the cliff or bridge, you fell into the sky. Very strange.
4) The aliens on the farm. I'm pretty good at protecting them now, but that poor girl being upducted was very creepy.
5) The music playing just before you enter Inkana, where the thief guy asks to see your sword (same guy who will attack the old lady with the bomb bag)
6) The music playing during the final "countdown" before the moon crashes. Very depressing and creepy.
7) When you're actually on the moon, I was expecting it to look depressing and scary. But it was a very peaceful field with children playing in it. Hardly what I would have expected coming from something that is about to distroy the world.

There are probably so many others that I have forgotten. I really need to go play that game again!

I have that song actually, called The Final Hours. I couldn't hear the "Link please help us" though.

Creepy things for me were:
1. The moon, granted. Inside and out
2. The sea monsters at Pinnacle Rock
3. The aliens and the accompanying music
4. When Sharp starts attacking you in the well (more just unexpected though)
5. Whenever you go to the top of the clock tower, and Skull Kid says something to the effect of "if it can be stopped, then stop it" and then he screams. Goosebumps
6. The transformations into Deku, Goron, and Zora Link. Gross
7. When the monkey gets boiled. He's still alive of course but just how still he is
8. In the water with Gyorg

I've never actually run out of time, so I never got to see the world ending. Maybe I should look into it

"8. In the water with Gyorg "

Agreed. This game had some pretty frightening bosses. Majora's Incarnation and Wrath also scare the *beep* out of me. The sounds that Odalwa makes haunt my nightmares.

reply

No way! They actually boil the monkey if you don't bring back the princess?

You'll be sorry I sent those nice young men in their clean white coats!

reply

Actually, I never got the chance og fighting Gyorg...My game messed up and something that was supposed to be there never was, so I didn't get to fight him....

And one more thing that creeps me out....ANYTHING HAVING TO DO WITH THE FREAKING SALESMAN.

I'm LuvableBaka. I like to run around in circles! What do YOU like to do?

reply

8. In the water with Gyorg

Totally. I always got dead-scared to get inside the water as Zora Link when fighting the Gyorg. Big things in the water always make me uneasy, I think I would never be able to swim with whales on open sea.

I agree with many of the moments already posted. Only witnessed it a couple of times, but when the moon destroys everything... just seeing Link in complete blackness, obliterated by a wave of fire. Horrible.

Also, before I had completed the game. Making the mistake of playing the Oath to Order when I'd only liberated two or three temples. Watching those giants try to stop the moon, but ultimately buckling becasue they just don't have enough strength... Very dark
