The Ending...........IMO

I thought this was a very good film although like most people on this board I would have liked a better ending. That was my opnion the first time I seen this film but on the second viewing I did agree with the story. I know most people prefer a happy ending with closure but that is not necessarly what life affords us.

I just wanted her character to be happy.........whether it was a gay or straight relationship. It seems her very understanding mother would accept a lesbian lifestyle for her daughter to insure her happiness but remember what she (her mother) said about not appearing in the play in the 6th grade...... "This is a child who will suffer in life" (something to that affect). Jessica had previously said to her mother- "I think I'm going to end up alone". I do believe that self prophecy was very accurate!

The point of the film was not if Jessica was gay or straight but whether she would ever have happiness to fulfill her life. If just being friends with her former gay lover made her happy, at least for the time being, well, so be it, but I doubt if that would be enough to fulfill her life. Some people just end up surving and that's the best they can do.

Jessica ends up with Josh. Josh is insanely hot. Ergo, the ending is great.

to:cpg-2 We are so alone on this, I was glad to see she realized he cared for her, and was willing to give him a shot. I was also glad he hung in there and was rewarded with at least getting to see her once again. I would have said this even if it was Helen and the roles were reversed. GO JOSH

To: Dave1136....I strongly disagree when her mother told her that, I realized that is how she viewed Josh, he, not being good enough, not living up to her expectations so she dumped him even though he may not have deserved it. You hear him say this over and over in this film. Her mother made her understand that people are not perfect, I also felt she would give him a chance because she excepts him for what he is as she did Helen. So I don't think she will be alone for to long as i see her giving him another chance. I also feel they would work.
