The Prince of Egypt was superior quality in every way- like direction, art/animation, music, voice talent etc. If you just pick like a random 30 second scene or music number or something in both movies and see them after one another it is so, so obvious (I was so surprised when I found that Prince's IMDB rating is higher than Joseph by only .5 points...I think their differences in quality are friggin' humongous)

I do like this film. But in comparison it is weak compared to Prince of Egypt. A true indicator of a perfect animated film is one where you don't sit there cringing at either the quality of the music or dialogue. POE, you feel you are watching an adult film, but one that is for the family, as goes the legacy of all great animated films. I found myself cringing a lot in Joseph, there were bits that were quite corny, but also bits that were cinematically very very good. For all in all consistancy, POE wins hands down, plus they had the benefit of music by Stephen Schwartz, one of the greatest broadway and film composers of our time.

For me, I'd say it's a tie. I like both movies the same. Even though POE is more epic and adventurous, Joseph KOD is heartwarming and it provides a great message about forgiveness. I'd also like to say that I agree with several people that Joseph KOD is underrated, but whatever it's still a good movie. Everyone has their own opinion and they're entitled to it.

LoL I remember when I was a kid I was a bit creeped out by POE, and turned to JKOD because it was less heavy and harsh.

It depends on the age of the person I guess.

reply

I don't think it is fair to compare them. Joseph is the prequel to the Prince of Egypt. Both are very strong and very meaningful.

reply

I agree it isn't exactly fair to compare the two seeing as Prince of Egypt had a much larger budget and more star-studded cast and higher quality music. It was also more of an epic tale about frustration and rage between two brothers and the war between God and the Pharaoh. BUT Joseph's being a prequel isn't any reason for it to be anything less than POE. The fact that the budget was smaller, and that it was a direct-to-video release is also there. In my opinion, POE wins overall in Direction, Acting, Score, Visual Effects, everything!

Prince of Egypt is overall a better voice. But I personally like 'Joseph: King of Dreams' more.

I thought this was gonna be a fight thread. Prince of Egypt would get Joseph in a head lock np and administer fatal chinese burns!

Prince of Egypt just has better production value. As for the stories, I think I also have to go with Prince of Egypt.

But I like both movies! Certainly more entertaining than some of that crap DreamWorks likes to produce nowadayds.
