Worst Holmes...

I just cannot stop laughing whenever the guy's on screen!!!
It's like they pull someone off the street to play the detective!!!

reply

I know. Did you know the guy who played him was from Washington, D.C.? He faked the accent, and quite poorly in my opinion.

reply

I agree. He's so bad I am unable to watch more than 20 minutes of the program. I've tried several times because the other actors are good ,the sets are great and, of course, I love the story.. It's like he's playing a comedic role to everyone else's dramatic roles.

reply

These comments are interesting as I feel like I have been watching this for 2 hours and haven't seen Holmes yet!

What's up with that?!?!?!

reply

you havent missed anything-not seeing Holmes. Watson is taking care of everything. Besides it is Sir Henry that you want to watch here. Anything with Jason London is awesome.

reply

You're right, Watson does all the dirty work (poor guy). I actually didn't mind Sir Henry, but maybe that's because I've had a crush on Jason since he appeared in 7th Heaven.

reply

I thought this was one of the better portrayals of Watson. I so dislike the bumbling fool as portrayed by Nigel Bruce.

reply

I agree with your comment reegarding Kenneth Walsh. I thought his was one of the better portrayals of Watson as well. And while I understand your thinking regarding Nigel Bruce's portrayel, in his defense, he played the role he was given. Actors aren't writers or directors, they read the lines written for them and folow the "direction" of the film's director. I think he did a marvellous job all things considered, and although a bit bumbling, he did not play a fool. I refer you to the comments made by Hillary Brook, who was actually there at the time, by way of confirmation. Brett and Hardwicke were the closest to the actual stories, as evidenced by reading the written stories.

reply

I totally agree with your comment. It's like the "star" is acting in a totally different movie from the rest of the cast.

reply

This is pure drivel!!!

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe...

I came away with the distinct impression that if Jim Carrey were ever to portray Holmes onscreen, we'd end up seeing pretty much the same interpretation.

reply

I have to agree. While the rest of the cast holds up pretty well, Matt Frewer looks like he dropped in from a different movie. Maybe he was having Max Headroom flashbacks or something.

Oh, well. I picked up this movie on DVD for $2 at Target; the disc also includes two other entries in this series.

reply

Exactly my thinking as well! It's like Max Headroom playing Sherlock Holmes. Not much versatility for this actor.

reply

That's funny, I too picked up on some Jim Carrey-ness in his portrayal. Not sure that's such a good thing for a Sherlock Holmes movie.

i was ironing and turned this on to pass the time. About 5 minutes into it I decided that I would rather BE ironed than watch this. Matt Frewer is a good actor but he is not Sherlock Holmes.

I generally like Matt Frewer but I caught this on TV right now, started watching and then turned it off after 10 minutes. His acting was dreadful.

I love me some classic Sherlock Holmes, but this was not it.
