Deanna: Questions

I haven’t seen this addressed, apologies if it’s already been discussed.

What was the deal with Deanna being held in the hospital for so long? My interpretation is that they were keeping her for mental evaluation, but she made it seem as if they were keeping her for other reasons. She mentioned that the staff suddenly became interested when she started having flashback dreams. But were they simply keeping her for suicide watch/extended therapy? They only showed her working with the audiologist and shrink.

Also, why did she not have any friends? She was not a social outcast at school. Did she mean that the friends she had in school were not true friends, because they were not around after the shooting when she needed them? I just find it hard to believe that no one but her parents sent flowers and gifts. No teachers? No community members or organizations? Parents of the kids she hung out with at school?

Very good movie overall. Extremely slow-moving, but the pay-off is definitely worth it.

She was held in the hospital for so long because of effects of the shooting. Nightmares so she couldn't sleep and she was also suffering from post concussion syndrome like was mentioned in the therapy session and hence the audiologist scene.

I thought it was pretty clear why she didn't have any friends as she was a bookworm with very little social skills, so she had a difficult time making friends. What made it worse was the parents being rich and seemingly buying her anything she wanted.
