How bad is the nudity ?

I'd like to know how much nudity there is in Dagon, if you could describe the scenes please... I'm not some desperate pervert, it's just that my girlfriend would kill me if I buy movies with excessive nudity in it (what she considers "excessive nudity" might seem ridiculous for some people here, so I need to know precisely).

Also, how good is the movie compared to other Gordon-Lovecraft movies ? I love From Beyond, I don't think nudity is too excessive in that one, while I'm not so fond of Re-Animator in which there were more nasty scenes if I remember correctly. Thanks for the help !

It's a masterpiece, buy it.
It's on par with Re-Animator and better than From Beyond.
The atmosphere is excellent.

As for the nudity, there is only one scene.

they sacrifice the hottest girl but first they undress her fully and torture her.
it has almost more blood than nudity LOL
you do get to see her naked (breasts) and tied, but nothing offensive, really.
(unless you mind for the sacrifice itself)

I recently saw Dagon, and was rather pleased with it. You're biggest problem would be gore, the face pealing seen being particularly unpleasant. As for nudity, there is I believe two or three scenes with any. The first is chest only, and is very short. The second is considerably longer. Technically, it is full nudity, but from the front you never see below roughly the stomach, and the second part of it is a full view from the back, but the character never turns more then a little, so the back is all you see.

I still find it funny how Americans are so concerned about a glimpse of a breast on screeen without making any mention to the torture, blood, gore.

Yes, the torture scene are very disturbing, both on the old man and the beautiful girl.

You clearly have virtually no experience with a wide range of political and social systems if you think that sort of problem is even vaguely limited to Americans. Try to get something done in France or Italy, for example, and you'll start longing for a nice clean fist-fight, or firing squad, to settle all differences. And I'm not even going to go into the various areas of the world in perpetual turmoil, from the Balkans to most of the Southern Hemisphere, to places where old animosities die very hard (Ireland, for instance, or Quebec.)

Trust me, get out of your house and experience a bit more of the world before you form any solid opinions.

Problem is I can't find the DVD anymore, it was in discount in some shops in my area and now it seems it's all gone. Damn, I'll have to look harder.

And IMDb_Tech, I don't know if your comment was directly related to my post or not, but if so, you got it all wrong, I'm French and my girlfriend is from Scandinavia. It's just that my girlfriend is very concerned with nudity. She also cares about the horrible scenes of course, but well, less... ah, women !

You will see some nudity of Raquel Merono during a tortur scene, but you will nearly not notice it due to the gore. By nudity, it shows her breasts, her butt and some skin, but you never see below the stomic from the front.

Sci-Fi channel just showed it.

Think of the worst horror film ever (and they're pretty much all bad) then multiply it by fifty. Then imagine getting kicked in the balls...twice.

Dagon is sort of like that, only worse.

you watched it too? It freaked me out and i thank God they didn't show the gore scenes. Dude, screw the nudity, be worried about the gore scences!

I thought it was very entertaining and horrific at the same time. It had some very funny moments that my wife and I laughed at. I am glad I saw it on the Sci Fi edited channel. Some of the nudity & gore would have killed watching a terrific horror movie. Gore and nudity to me is not needed in movies. What you don't see lets your imagination run wild as you imagine what happens. Like the girl who is lowered into the water where the Sea God impregnates her. That in itself is masterfully horrific without showing anything. Leave the nudity and gore to the imagination I say.

Haha, yeah, I broke up with my girlfriend since. Now I can watch sex scenes ! \o/ Yay ! I haven't bought Dagon yet though, I keep putting it off. Plus I watched King of Ants by Stuart Gorgon and this time it put me off. Wasn't horribly bad, but it sure wasn't as sweet as the good old From Beyond.

I wonder if the OP ever saw DAGON?

It's currently available for streaming on Hulu. Probably won't help the OP much. I don't believe he's in the US.

Hey, I'm the original poster, browsing old topics for new replies. She wasn't a moron actually, she was a good, intelligent girl, but she had that kind of jealousy/obsessiveness on female imagery that was so immensely tiring. And yes, we are separated as I wrote before. Haven't been with a girl since then ! :D

P.S.: I still haven't seen Dagon !

Definitely get it. Personally I was not bothered by it, but I guess I can see how some women might be. But consider that I am an avid Stephen King fan, and I love most horror, so not much bothers me. The gore is kind of extensive, but the rest of it is pretty freaky. Not like so many recent 'horror' movies, that rely on gore and shocks and call it scary.

Some mornings it just doesn't pay to wake up and chew through the straps.

You should dump your g/f, it'll just end in tears, especially if you are a big fan of movies or just into art in general (music, paintings, etc.) I was in the same position as you long ago and I can't believe I put up with that sh*t for as long as I did.

It is really strange/annoying the editing tricks these movies use to hide the nudity. For example, with the way the sacrifice scene was set up, you'd think it would be impossible to avoid a lower nudity shot. They show the breasts many times, but use every trick in the editor's book to avoid anything else. Just like how this kind of thing is parodied in Austin Powers, it really is getting nonsensical, just like the very small differences between the R rated and unrated versions of a movie.

I'm a little confused. One of the keywords applied to this movie is "Male Nudity" (as well as "Female Nudity") but everybody just mentions female nudity. IS there any male nudity? Just wondering.

It's horrific!
