Why were the parents forced to take her back and not the brother?

I was wondering the same thing... the only thing I can think of was that the boy still showed 'promise' to be a productive citizen and the girl was kind of damaged goods and yet they didn't want to put her on the streets so they forced the parents.. I don't know.
Did you think the stepdad could've possibly molested her? Why else would she have wanted to leave in the first place and then come back and snatch her brother and how would he know for a fact that she was still a virgin? Did he stick his fingers up her?

I was thinking the same thing. I got sort of confused when he was all he knew she was still a virgin when he bathed her...wtf...how would he know unless he did in fact finger her or like look for himself...omg...that was so gross. Poor Ana!!

The shelter was willign to take Ana and her brother in, but Ana wouldn't agree for them to. And the brother would only go along with whatever his sister said. Her brother could have ended up alright earlier on, but he did whatever his sister said and she didn't know what was good for him.
shareI live in BUcharest and I met many Romanians like Ana's step dad and how ugly it may seem ... I'm sure he at least fingered ger to see if she's a virgin ... when he was talking about it, it was incredibly gross and inhumane !!!
