Where is Mihai now?

Where is he now? I remember in the film that he finally got off of the streets, but where is he now? It would be cool to hear him reflect on his past and how it formed him into who he is now. It seems from the dvd feature that he was the only one who made it....

Last I read that he was back in Romania living with a social worker and trying to find a job.

Do you remember when he was riding in the car with the social worker and she asked him why he left home and he said it was because his father beat him? My mouth dropped when she said that was nothing, that even she beats her kids and that he should just go back home. HELLO? What kind of social worker is that who beats her own kids?? Good grief!

Christina must be 22 yrs old now or about that.. I wonder where she is. I feel compelled to find them all.

Yeah, if you could come in on Saturday, that would be great

no, I don't believe that lady who said that to him was a social worker - I just saw the movie and I'm pretty sure she was just a lady just next to him on the ride however if it was her, its customary to describe a beating as probably spanking or whipping - but not like abuse just because your drunk and hit your kids for any mistake. Hope that helps.

Yeah, I was shocked to find out Christina was a girl at first and now I totally wish I knew she was doing better, or atleast alive with some form of help.

Christina is now addicted to heroine and her girlfriend is a prostitute. Christina had gotten pregnant but gave her daughter up for adoption and I think that was a wise decision.

Sugar Bear -

You said "Christina is now addicted to heroine and her girlfriend is a prostitute. Christina had gotten pregnant but gave her daughter up for adoption and I think that was a wise decision."

Where did you find this information? Please help - do you have a link?

I wrote this is another post. The guy is right. I see Cristina at least once a month and I saw the movie right now and recognised here very easy. She stays around Universiatii Underground Station and sometimes helps the people that sell there books and records by carrying them. Since January 1, 2012 the police does not allow people to sell books or records there anymore and since then I have not seen Cristina anymore. As a matter of fact, i see from time to time teen-agers and kids coming up from Bicharest Sewers. There are not on the streets or in the subwat anymore.

I'm pretty sure she was a social worker.. He was in a car with 2 women (social workers) who were taking him to his house to try to get his papers so that he could join the school. Maybe she did mean she spanked her kids and just used the word beat but even so, that's bad because that was like saying he was full of it... that it wasn't that bad... instead of believing him. In my opinion..

Jennifer,

On the dvd, it has the most recent updates on all of the kids....although we don't get to see recent pics of them. However, the only kid who we see a recent picture of is Mihai...he looks like a grown man and is very handsome.

If my memory serves me correct here is what it said:

Ana(14): Still living with her Mom and the crew heard she was prostituting but they didn't have evidence to back it up. Btw, Ana's Mom had recently had twins.

Marian(12):Still living in a state shelter didn't say whether he was adopted or not but he does visit his Mom and Ana.

Mihai(16):A man from Belguim adopted Mihai after watching this film. He took Mihai to Belguim and Mihai went back to school and is now living a better life. He has since returned to Romania and now lives with a social worker but plans to go back to Belgium in the future.

Christina(19): Christina is still living in the streets and is now addicted to heroine and her girlfriend is a prostitute. Christina had gotten pregnant but gave her daughter up for adoption.

Macarena(18): Still lives in the streets and many social workers have tried to rehabilitate her and take her in. Sadly, her drug habits have taken her back to the streets. She mainly keeps to herself.

I'll have to go back and check the dvd if I missed anything else. Hope this helps.

in response to the comment from the social worker who said she beat her children:

i would caution about the culture barrier here. what we may think of beating (in the anglo sense) might not be the same. although, i was disgusted at miahai's father who went on about how nice of a guy he was, and then admitted to chaining the boy by the neck to the radiator.

Ain't we a pair, Mr. Raggedy Man?

Out of curiousity, I searched for Mihai on MySpace and amazingly he created an account last month (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=189471418). It's not filled up but I'm happy to know he's alive, has access to the internet, and knows of MySpace (haha). I doubt that he's on the street at this point.

I just requested him as a friend...

What is wrong with you people?
It wasn't a car, it was train. And the lady was just a passenger.
Someone said that Mihai is back to Romania. Back from where ? The filming took place in Bucharest, Romania. None of these kids crossed the border.

Mihai was adopted by a man from Belgium so Mihai was living there, learning French and was in school. He has since returned to Romania and is living there with a social worker.

I believe that woman was a passenger who was traveling in the same compartment as Mihai and the social worker from "Save the Children". By this point, I wasn't shocked when she said she beat her children, however I was really annoyed that she was trying to "Shame" Mihai into going home because she said he was causing his parents undue pain and ruining their old age by running away from home. She should have minded her own business.
The interview with Mihai's father-who "never beat his son" yet chained him by the neck to a radiator to keep him from running away-made me sick. I felt that all the parents in the documentary were lying and self-serving.

Mihai is alive and well! I have him as a friend on face book. He often asnwers fan questions on the Children Underground face book page. He also says Macarena and Cristina are still alive and that Ana is living with her mother and two little brothers.

He put up a youtube video about where he is. Good to know he's doing fine!

It's actually a happy ending. If you do a little looking around and you know Romanian, you will find Mihai actually has a job and a life now, he works in IT.

Wish we knew what happened to the other kids in the group. Sadly, you see a lot of "street kids", but you don't see nearly as many "street adults", which either means a lot of them die or they get reintegrated into society. Either way, it's probably not a happy ending for the vast majority of them, with rampant disease, violence, etc.

I think Mihai hangs out on Facebook on this movie's page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Children-Underground/119174614861?sk=wall). He also left a couple comments on various blogs (http://www.chronicle.su/society/violeta-macarena-rosu/).

Or at least someone pretending to be him.
