What was the purpose of switching _____ (Spoilers)

Why did they switch dog tags? I don't understand what Pike being white, or Dunbar being black has to do with the ending of the movie at all?

Why did they switch dog tags...to accomplish what? Thanks.

I'm trying to figure that out as well...

to convince Kendall that Pike/Dunbar was dirty too. it gave Kendall something "on" Pike and got him to talk to them (to lie & pin it on Pike/Dunbar) thus forcing Styles' hand in poisoning him.

It also gave Hardy additional time to keep "Dunbar/Pike" in base custody pending the new discovery instead of sending him off to D.C. Great acting chops all around, even if Travoita was a little over the top. Although he had to be as he had no idea who was clean and who was dirty, and only found out through cerebral testing as events unfolded.
