Sooty Teddy Bears

Does anyone else own or has owned a Sooty Teddy Bear? I got mine in Australia approx 1965/1966. I know this for a fact, as my mother removed his eyes, so that my baby sister could play with it safely. The only other repairs to him were replacing his paw and foot pads. Otherwise he is still in fantastic condition. He is now approx 40 yrs old.

Sooty rocks, I have some old video's somewhere around here, must have watched them hundreds of times when I was younger. Some of the stories I can remember were rabbit hunting, soccer, a museum with a burglar, and Superdog!

I have puppets of sooty, sweep and sue, and I also have a sooty teddy with legs! I got him about 16 years ago

Superdog was great! I never had real Sooty toys, but I had a dog toy which looked a bit like Sweep and my sister's bear looked a bit like Sooty, so we pretended.

My great grandmother worked for the famous toy company 'Chad Valley', which made the puppets for Harry Corbett and his television show. As a young child, I was lucky enough to be given a collection of Sooty, Sweep, Soo, Butch the dog (a character not really seen that often) and some others, which I can't remember the names of now. They are not as old as katt-jovi's but they are pretty old now.

I can remember my great grandmother telling me that the TV show used to get through ever so many of the puppets. Even if one got wet, it would need to be replaced immediately. I also remember that she used to have to do out work for her job and would regularly have bags of puppet parts to stitch together.

I have quite a few of the old videos too. I am hoping to record them all onto DVD in the near future.

In a way, I like to think that Sooty is part of my family history.
