"The perfect perch for Molly's palace of an apartment was inspired by the dome of a famous West side building, the Ansonia. The Ansonia was photographed as the exterior of Molly's apartment building, but the interior of Molly's apartment was a set built at Silvercup Studios in Queens."

Did any one else love Ray's room? lol I did!
shareThe Ansonia was also used for "Single White Female", though mostly for the exterior shots. The inspiration for Bridget Fonda's character's apartment was an actual apartment in the Ansonia. The Ansonia has a very distinctive staircase.
A friend, a real estate agent, told me that many of the very large apartments in the Ansonia were cut up into smaller apartments when the building went co-op/condo over 15+ years ago. IIRC, he mentioned there are still some apartments in the building which are rental units.
