Girls Film?

I watched this film a few days ago and I thought it was sublime. Really shows the insability, and strength of a true friendship. It had this wave of romanticism through it, without actually being a story about a romantic love.

However. I had this nagging feeling throughout it that I was watching a dreaded 'chick flick'.

I think I had that feeling simply because it's protagonists are female. However. Had they both had been male, it would have been a completely different film, and probably wouldn't have had that 'romantic' feeling to it. It certainly would've been more violent for a start. It doesn't follow the usual path of a chick flick, and I think with it being a British film, it seems to have this intrinsic value to it which it wouldn't have, had it been a Hollywood Film. However, I still get that feeling that I shall be one of the very very few males with it in my collection.
(I'm comfortable with that regardless....!)

I'm still in two minds.

Anyone else care to share their opinions or theories?

I saw it, because I'm a Michelle Williams fan, but did not like the ending. I'm afraid it is primarily a chick flick.

How else should it have ended?
I can see how it's a chick flick in some peoples eyes, but my justification for it not being one I think is genuine..
Yes, Michelle Williams was very good in it, her accent was spot on. None of your Dick Van Dyke/Don Cheadle business going on there..

I would have been happier if she had gone to NY and left them all behind.

I see it as a coming of age film...
Can't really think of any other box to put it in.

I think calling it a chick flick would be wrong and shallow. I think people assume that since it's about two women and there's a love story that it must be a chick flick...

The film is about growing up, relationships (family, friends), personalities, sex, love.. and lots of other things.

Anyway, a lot more guys than you know like "chick flicks" they just don't admit it. It's a fact.

I know what you mean about romanticism though. I think a lot of it has to do with the music.
Also it is very nostalgic.
