go to university with your best friend. It's obvious. Don't room with your best friend if you want the friendship to last. I think this film is a perfect example of what not to do. I hate girls like Marina who don't take responsiblity for their actions. They always presume because they aren't smart enough to be goody-two-shoes that they have to extrapolate towards the other end of the spectrum and be completely loose and flimsy. And they never change or ever learn. Sorry, I'm not bitter over anything, I just know a lot of girls like Marina. Tragedy may befall them later in life, but you can sure bet they deserved it.

I disagree. I liked the character of Marina as much as I liked the character of Holly. She was a confused young woman going through an identity crisis and not knowing what to do with herself. I was much like her as a teen, and even now I still feel like that sometimes. So desperate and empty and just wanting to be filled up. And I don't think she was stupid. She just wasn't booksmart. She wanted to feel life and to be happy but she didn't know how to make herself happy. I like that Friel was able to play the character with emotional depth so that Marina didn't seem like a hollow, crass caricature. She was a deeply sympathetic character for me.

its so true. my best friends want to all live together in a house and i always think we can barely spend three days on vacation together, let alone live in the same house!

i love them, but i need my space from them too....although, I don't think any of my friends would be like Marina was...

ever since i left school i've been living with various different combinations of my friends and theres been no major disasters!! theres one guy who i kinda drifted apart from, but i dont think living together was to blame, and iv never even had any major fights with any of the girls iv lived with. maybe i'm just laid back!

oh, and saying that someone deserves a tragedy in later life, is just not nice!
