This is on BBC late tonight and I am sitting watching remembering being a student in the 1980s.
The clothes and some of the attitudes seem right.
The soundtrack is great.
Great cast as well.
The filming locations are listed as Brighton which I am sure is right but some of its looks like Aberystwyth to me but since I went there perhaps I am seeing things and perhaps all seaside university towns look the same?
yes, wonderful nostalgia value. I went to uni in 1980 and this film is spot on with music, attitudes, clothes, everything.

I read at the time of release (on a handout from the British Film Institute during the London Film Festival) that some of it was filmed in Brighton (along Madeira Drive on the seafront, if I am not getting muddled with the film Quadrophenia).But a lot was filmed in the Isle of Man because a).it was cheaper and b.)the director Goldbacher wanted an 'out of season look' to the resort where the young women went to university. Brighton never really looks out of season (I was born there so am biased).
It was great to see the director at the film festival - she looked like a shy intellectual confronted by a mob of media studies students!
Interesting film which has stayed with me. I heard the pop tune which was used in the opening (?) sequence on the radio - a song about white horses...
I though both women actresses performed well as did the actor who played the seductive university lecturer/David Lynch favourite who since has been in Desperate Housewives.
