'We can change ten thousand times in the blink of an eye but still

all we worry about is how to really screw things up."

First line of the film. Jack writes it in his storage unit. What does it mean in the context of the film, and why do you think it's the opening line?

I think it means (in the context of the film), how much they change each other, but neither of them really verbalize it, so everything is screwed up.

Jack, especially, changes a great deal on the inside, he's just outwardly keeping up the same lifestyle because it's what he knows. With Claire, it's kind of the opposite, she changes outwardly, but remains the same deep down and can eventually go back to her old life.

Just my humble interpretation. I've only seen it once so far, so there's probably someone here who can shed more light.

All Jack had to do was tell Claire he loves her when she was first out there hurting herself to hurt him and she most likely would've stopped. But he didn't, because it wouldn't have fit the "image" he'd given himself, so he was heartbroken in secret, instead.

So, they both changed several times rather quickly, but managed to mess things up pretty well for themselves and each other.
