Why No SNES Sequel?

This game came out early in the SNES lifespan and was insanely popular. There was ample time to make another full length Zelda game for this console. Why didn't they?

reply

Because it's creator (Miyamoto) likes to work on his other successful games before releasing sequels. Mario and Mario Kart, then Zelda, then Star Fox, Then Metroid. By the time he's done with those a new system comes out.

Thanks. Super Metroid doesn't stack up with the rest of those titles. I still wish I had my SNES Zelda 2.

reply

Well, A Link to the Past is number 3. Number 2 was the Adventure of Link for NES.

You know you can buy A Link to The Past for your gameboy right?

Never had a Gameboy. I'm aware of the "sequels" on earlier and later platforms; I just wish they would have cranked out an SNES sequel -- even keeping the majority of graphics and design. Another title with all new maps, dungeons, and bosses would've rocked. It's not like the story was necessarily in-depth.

reply

True. but they made a Link to the Past so well and so long that it was like having two games in one. It has the most dungeons than any other Zelda game. I'm not too sure they would be able to surpass it. The Minish Cap isn't near as good as a Link to the Past. I'm happy they made Ocarina of Time instead of a SNES sequel.

Didn't even need a sequel, and besides, this was the age of a Nintendo Renaissance, the only games that needed sequels back then were the Mega Man games.
