I think the order of the Zelda games is...

This is the order I think the zelda games are supposed to come in:
(Just so you don't get confused, there are five different Links)

1)Ocarina of Time (of course) (Link #1)
Here it splits into two time lines because ocarina of time has two endings: one
as a boy and the other as an adult.
2).a)Majora's Mask (Link #1)
Starts off in the OoT ending as a boy.
b)A Link to the Past (Link #2)
Roots from the OoT ending as an adult. This is a new Link. I don't think he's
a descendant of the original. Ganon breaks the seven sages seal.

(The rest root off from A Link to the Past)

3)The Legend of Zelda (Link #3)
4)Adventure of Link (Link #3) The names of the towns are that of the seven
sages so it must have rooted from the adult Link ending in OoT.
5)Oracle Series (Link #4) Link leaves Hyrule.
6)Link's Awakening (Link #4) Link starts off in a ship, just how the Oracle
Series ended. Link is lost at sea in the end so he never returns to Hyrule.
7)The Wind Waker (Link #5) Explains the story of OoT, part of ALttP, and the
disappearance of Link. Hyrule vanishes and a new land is created.

I still don't know where Four Swords, Four Swords Adventures, and the Minish Cap fit but that's just because I haven't played them.

sounds good to me. i haven't played all of them so i can't say for sure, but from now on i guess i'll go with your list.

thanks man

reply

I haven't played Four Swords, but I've played the other two, and I do know that all three have a villian named Vaati in them. Ganon is in FS Adventures, and the Four Sword is in all three (their trying to make it the new Master Sword only it's not that cool). Link is a kid in all three. I'm not sure if any are sequels, but in Minish Cap they do say that Link is already a hero, so this must branch off from another game.
I'm pretty sure the order is:
Minish Cap (this is the one where Vaati first becomes an actual bad guy)
Four Sword
Four Sword Adventures (Vaati is released from some kind of prison or something that he was put in by another boy using the Four Sword (I'm assuming this is the lInk from Four Sword) with Ganon's help)

hope taht helps

There is one Link per game.

Also, regarding the timeline, the creator said that it goes OoT, Zelda 1, 2, A Link to the Past. But the director of the Wind Waker claimed WW to be based 100 years after OoT, but playing WW you can clearly tell it's based hundreds of years after OoT.

I don't think the Oracle Series has a new Link because he is already a hero. When he is called to help

I need a sign to let me know your here. All of these lines are being crossed over the atmosphere

An OFFICIAL source about the Zelda timeline is this:
http://www.gamespot.com/gamecube/action/thelegendofzelda/show_msgs.php?topic_id=24434804&pid=920769
It has a whole lot of detail about each Zelda game, and how each one is put in order.

This is how I think it goes (but I may be wrong):

*Never played.

1. Ocarina of Time- I read somewhere that this is the first one that happened.

2. Majora's Mask- After defeating Ganondorf (in Ocarina of Time), Link was sent back to his childhood to "regain his lost time" Then he accidentally ended up in Termina. He had Epona (which only adult Link could ride in Ocarina of Time) and the Kokiri Sword (which only young Link used in Ocarina of Time).

3. Twilight Princess- I assume this because many of the places that were in Ocarina of Time were in this game. This one had to have happened at least 50+ years after Ocarina of Time.

4. A Link to the Past- All I know is, this one happened before the original Legend of Zelda. But I assume the 7 sages were Rauru, Saria, Darunia, Ruto, Impa, Nabooru and Zelda from Ocarina of Time.

5. Link's Awakening- I always assumed this one occurred shortly after A Link to the Past, so I'm sticking to that theory.

6. *Oracle of Ages/*Oracle of Seasons- I was told that they're a sequel to one another. I assumed that this is the same Link from Link's Awakening.

7. The Legend of Zelda- I guess that the Link in this is the kid version of Link in The Adventure of Link.

8. The Adventure of Link- After Link destroyed Ganon, Zelda was put into a deep slumber. If Link died, then Ganon could be revived. This game has towns named after the six sages and Mido from Ocarina of Time.

9. The Wind Waker- Everyone knows this one happened after Ocarina of Time. Hyrule was flooded years before this one and was forgotten. In the Hyrule Castle basement, there are pictures of the six sages from Ocarina of Time on stained glass windows. In the main hall in Hyrule Castle, there is a statue of Link (the Hero of Time). Ganondorf says stuff to Link like, "It's been a while boy" or "You're the Hero of Time, reborn".

10. *Phantom Hourglass- I'm guessing that this is a direct sequel to Wind Waker.

11. The Minish Cap- This is probably how Vaati gets all powerful. At first, the special sword is known as the Picori Blade. After you've collected all 4 elements, the Picori Blade becomes the Four Sword (even though all 4 Links are green and 3 of them are ghostly looking).

12. *Four Swords (Gameboy Advance)- This is also on the GBA Link to the Past, but I've never been able to play it because we only had one catridge and we needed many cartridges. In the intro (which I was still able to watch), Zelda tells Link that Vaati attacked and a boy (probably Link from Minish Cap) with the power of 4 defeated Vaati.

13. Four Swords Adventures- It states that Vaati was defeated by Link (probably from the GBA Four Swords). The Four Swords Shrine was the same one I saw in the intro to the GBA Four Swords.

I watched Part 6 of the Zelda Retrospective. This is how they think the timeline went.

-The Minish Cap

-Ocarina of Time

Basically, they think that after Ocarina of Time, the timeline splits in two.

Timeline A: Link and Zelda (as kids) warn the King of Hyrule of Ganondorf's plot.
The games in Timeline A are as follows:

-Majora's Mask

-Link's Awakening

-The Legend of Zelda

-The Adventure of Link

-Four Swords Adventures

-A Link to the Past

-Oracle of Ages

Timeline B: Ganondorf is sealed away by the sages. Zelda is an adult, but there is no Link because Zelda sent him back to his childhood.
The games in Timeline B are as follows:

-Twilight Princess

-Wind Waker

-Phantom Hourglass

-Oracle of Seasons

To see how they came up with this theory, you'll have to watch Part 6 of the Zelda Retrospective.

Ocarina Of Time is a backstory of A Link To The Past. Just to inform.

ok so i know that my post is 5 years too late (sorry) but i think i figured out the timeline. Now i got this info from youtube and my own observations of the games.
Here is the official Timeline: (lets start with adult)

Adult timeline: (after ocarina)a link to the past, the Wind Waker,Phantom of the Hourglass, links awakening, spirit tracks.

Child timeline: Majoras Mask, twilight princess, the minish cap, the four swords, four swords adventures, first legend of Zelda game then its sequel.

here is why i believe these games are in the correct order:

Child Timeline: after majoras mask not much is said about what happens to link and he dosent find Navi. He remains in the lost woods lost.
centuries later the events of Twilight Princess occur with a new and different link. During this game Gannondorf escapes from twilight Realm not the dark world like in the adult timeline. Also note that in this game Link encounters a stalfos named " Hero Shade" who teaches him sword attacks that the first link knew. Shade also appears to have the exact same shield and sword link had in MM. So i think that shade is infact the first link and the new link might be his child since he says "Go and do not falter my child!"
sometime after TP, minish cap occurs with a 3rd link. At the end of this game he gets the four sword which would lead to the four swords games. Now they no longer use the master sword in these 2 games so it can't be in the adult timeline. Centuries after the four swords games another link has to stop Gannon from stealing triforce of wisdom which was split into 7 shards. This game is the very first legend of zelda game ever made.this would follow its sequel as the end of the child timeline.

AT: after link dissapears, years pass until ALTTP occurs because Ganon escapes from the Sared Realm. this link might be the same for oracle of ages and seasons but its not clear. after this game Ganon returns and the gods flood Hyrule in hopes that Ganon cant rule it. Then centuries later wind waker occurs along with its sequels. In Phantom of the hourglass link sets sail at the end and gets lost in sea which would lead to LA where link starts out lost at sea.

well there you go that is what i think the correct timeline is. I know some might not agree but others might enjoy.

anyone?

I agree with your theory, chriso32394. It would make perfect sense if the Hero Shade was the Hero Of Time. In Ocarina of Time, Grog becomes a Stalfos when he remains in the Lost Woods for a long period of time. The Hero Shade bears a strong resemblance to a Stalfos, so it's not unlikely that child Link got lost in the Lost Woods on his way back to Hyrule after the events of Majora's Mask. And as you said, the Shade also carries the shield and sword from Majora's Mask, or at least ones that are very similar.

As for the Twilight Princess Link being Majora's Mask Link's child, this seems a little unlikely, although it is possible that he is a descendant of him in some way. Hyrule seems to different in Twilight Princess from in Ocarina of Time for only a generation to have passed. But yes, the two games are definately connected, as Ganondorf's attempted execution was decided directly after Ocarina of Time ends in a conversation between Link and Zelda, and took place not long after that I'd imagine.

I love me some Link to the Past, it's actually my favorite game of all time. Lots of good childhood memories with that game when it first came out. Found my SNES a few weeks back and started playing again and i love it just as much as i remembered it.
