Amazing film!

I just watched this film last night and was astounded at how wholly engrossing and fascinating it was. Lustig and Wiener are both still alive at this point, continuing on with their work (Lustig has since moved to Prague, I believe) though I don't believe Lustig ever did write that book about Wiener's experiences. I imagine Lustig was too close to the subject matter to be the best choice to write about it, as evidenced from how angry Wiener got at him when he was analyzing some of Wiener's experiences.

The commentary added an incredible wealth of background information on many of the scenes and filming history for this documentary, and I strongly recommend you listen to it if given the opportunity. For instance, one snippet mentions how Lustig and Wiener frequently broke into the Czech language during conversations when they didn't want the producers and director and crew to know what they were talking about; little did they realize that one of the producers knew Czech and often translated for the crew later that evening. Turns out that a lot of it was bawdy, ribald talk about sexual conquests and racy topics -- the young female Czech exchange students that the director hired to translate some of the conversations actually refused to translate some of them because they were so X-rated!
