this film was a surprise to me. most impressive was the divided screen approach. this film making technique can easily be botched, but they did a good and somewhat original job of it.

This movie seemed like a borderline arthouse project.

I think it was just arty/experimental enough with various divided-screens and psychdelic scenes to be interesting without crossing the line over to self indulgent. I liked it a lot.

Also, I noticed the name of the pawn shop was "pontypool" which is the name of a terrific zombie-flick by the same director some 7-8 years later.

It was awful. They used it only to distract the viewer's attention away from the lack of tension and the dullness of the scenes. An example is the chase sequence in the train station.
