what is in that 11 second scene ? is it on the dvd?

in britain we can't see anything on the cinema. the film censor (a moral bar steward?) cut an 11-second sequence from the film. WHY?

The 11 second scene that was cut was of a facial cumshot - i.e. a man ejaculating over a woman's face. I think there might be a report on the bbfc website about it. The shot, being real I believe, was not acceptable at the 18 category and could only be accommodated at the R18 rating (a rating reserved for pornographic works). If you look on the bbfc website, however, you will notice that an R18 certificate was granted to the uncut version as well as the 18 version with the required cut. I don't know if the R18 version was ever actually released and distributed here, but R18 videos are only legal to sell over the counter in licensed sex shops and not by mail order. I don't know how many viewers of French arthouse cinema would do the rounds of their nearby sex shops to look for it.

Generally I don't have a problem with the BBFC, they rarely make cuts these days and when they do it is usually to material that poses legal problems, or to more extreme scenes of sexual/sexualised violence where it's seen to revel or endorse the act. The director of The Pornographer was furious however, and I can see his point. Although I haven't seen the film, apparently the shot is somehow part of the plot. I don't really see the harm in a cumshot on screen in an 18...

To people who have seen porn movies, it was pretty mild. To people who haven't, it was obviously quite racy. What interested me was that she didn't swallow, as the director (played by Léaud) had instructed her to do. So we have the amusing scenario of the film's real director telling the porn actress playing a porn actress not to swallow.

Yes, the Léaud character, an old-fashioned, "arty" pornographer, told her not to scream, not to fake an orgasm, not to wear nail varnish, and to swallow Igor's semen. He also didn't want music. The much younger producer told her to put on nail varnish and to make more noise. Then he put on the music. Then we should have seen Igor ejaculate on her face. That was the point of the scene, and why the director was angry at it being cut. We do see her just after, looking at her hand, and we see Léaud looking depressed, so we can guess what's happened.

If you really want to watch the 11 second deleeted scene, it might be possible to import the DVD from another, more lenient country with the same area code.

Incidentally, although I understand the cut scene was an ejaculation (I have not watched the film) According to IMDB, the film "Love" was recenty been given an 18 certificate while leving in several ejaculation scenes. Is 18R becoming redundant?

Whether such scenes will be in the DVD I do not know, but I was surprised that the DVD of Ex Machina omitted several frontal shots including robots' labia!
