Orlando's proposal

I just saw this the other day... it wasn't a horrific movie or anything, but it wasn't top-notch, either. At any rate, my wife and I were talking about Orlando (Carman) and his means of proposing to his girl... why a card?

My thought is that Carman, being of a strong religious background, might not want to actually ask the 'big question' outright as a line in a movie (ie, it's sacred enough that he wants to save it to ask it 'for real').

Thoughts?
