What happened to the kids at the end? Spoilers please!!!

Can anyone tell me? Did they go to jail? or what?

I said in another message board what the ending lead me to believe was that it was basically the story of how the town idiot became the town idiot and George went nuts and continued to wear his superhero outfit & run around town trying to save people. I think George just told people that the other two kids got hit by a train because the narrator stated that they survived the crash of the car, then you see them walking near the train tracks. I think at that point George just lost it cause what kid walks around in his underwear with a dead dog on his head? Hello? The town idiot.

GEORGE NEVER WENT NUTS! He just is not your typical hero. In his mind he believes that he is one. Just like many people who believe that they are good citizens, which some people might also consider "nuts". The kids just decided to leave their $hitty little wasteland they called home.

They simply left behind their old lives. "...friends go separate ways," and that's why George said they died from a train wreck. Their lives in that town and their friendship with George ended, so basically they're dead to him.

When George says "All my friends died in a trainwreck" he's just saying it because he's "not there" mentally. But in the sense of the film, it still rings true.

Buddy died for real.
Vernon ran away on a train.
Sonia turned herself in to the police.
Nasia outgrew everyone in the group because she's more "mature".
And George's dog was killed by his uncle.

The "trainwreck" is this summer where everything went downhill and the group of friends drifted apart from one another.
