Question (SPOILERS)

I've read several posts but I'm still confused. I believe Vernon ran away and Sonya confessed to the police. So then what happened? Were Sonya and George tried for the accidental death of Buddy? Did Sonya tell on George and Vernon? And if so, what happened to them next?
