Extremely Underrated, IMHO

I just caught this movie this weekend for the first time in years, and it just reminded me of how great it is and how much I love it. I remember this came out when I was in Florida for a year and crazy home-sick for NYC, so I watched this almost everyday, because it's extremely realistic and completely captures the gritty feel of the city. John Leguizamo is brilliant, and I don't think he gets NEARLY the credit he deserves. Still one of my favorites, this movie :)

Well i just re-watched it (i am sure i have seen it a fair amount back in the day. but this was the first time i re-watched it in years now as i would estimate the last time i seen it was probably around 2006-2008 area) and it's definitely taken a hit for me vs what i used to think of it as it fell into Thumbs Down status for me nowadays as i can tell it don't interest/entertain me like it used to. i also used to think it was underrated but not anymore. but now, i doubt ill ever watch it again.

nowadays, i give Empire (2002) a 6/10 (Thumbs Down) (it used to be a 7.5-8/10 and in my Top 10 of 2002)

I havn't seen it in 12 years but I'll always remember 2 things about this movie, 1) The trailer was edited to make it look more exiting and even altered dialogue to change a characters name, making it seem like most of the movie was about the guy losing his money and trying to get it back.
2) It turned out to be a dull Leguizamo 'baby, I fkn love you' apollogetic movie kinda like Son of Sam, and the 'crime' doesn't happen untill like the last 20 minutes.
