Caillou is not a brat

He is a four year old who, like most four year olds, is learning new stuff everyday and learning that he can't always get his way. Yes, he does have tauntrums and whines, but so do most preschoolers who aren't getting their way. While I agree that sometimes his parents should actually punish him for his behavior, I do like how they will try to find a solution and suggest it to Caillou rather than just saying no. I've never seen them cave in and give him what he wants, like others have suggested.

I'd have to say my biggest beef with the show has to do with the episode where they fly on an airplane. I'm a flight attendant, and it will be a cold day in Hades before any passengers, including children, are every allowed up in the flight deck in our post 9/11 times. This episode will only cause disappointment for the kids who watch it and expect the same their first time flying. My hubby teases me and says "Your favorite episode is on again." LOL

I agree with the previous posts. (though not about spanking sorry... I used to
spank but I'd always feel like S*** afterwards and a wimp for sinking down to that level when there's other things to try.)

I've always enjoyed watchin Caillou with my little cousins (who now consider themselves too old to watch lol) I now watch it with my Nephew. I like how things are handled in the show. The adults talk, listen, and explain to the kids
instead of sinking to the level of hurting them physically. Therefore they're able to resolve problems in a positive manner.

That story was written and produced pre 9/11.

Thanks for clarifying, I dug a little further in my research and it does look like that episode was made pre 9/11. However, even before then, passengers were no longer allowed in the flight deck so I have no idea what the writers were thinking.

I don't strictly have any issues with this show, except for the fact that Caillou's voice grates on me. Like, a lot. He's either being overly, dramatically, sugary-sweet or he's whining. That's a fact. And having my own kids imitate either of those voices is very irritating. And his incessant giggling - good grief! I consider myself a very tolerant mother when it comes to kids' shows (I have a 6 year old and a 2 year old). But something about the tone and pitch of Caillou's voice makes me feel like I'm about to have a seizure.

He is spoiled. not to mention a brat.

Garrett, Since you think it's so fun stalking me from board to board, I'm just gonna have to start IGNORING YOU, cause obviously you have issues and are craving my attention. BTW why do you love a show about a brat?

reply

Kanona sense you love stalking me from board to board FIRST! Im going to start ignoring YOU!

that is the truth, his voice is the embodiment of annoyance. I work at a PBS station and he plays on every one of my shifts. His voice is like King Kongs fingernails on Paul Bunyans chalkboard. You knew he had one right....from all the trees. Plus he was a giant teacher, so he neede the chalkboard. I think he used snowy mountain peak fragments for giant sized pieces of chalk.

Thanks for pointing out one of my (many) peeves about this show. It's not just when they fly on a plane. They go on a boat and the captain lets Caillou steer. They go to a state park and get a personalized tour from the ranger. Oh, and he got to ride on the Zamboni, which I seriously doubt would EVER be allowed due to liability issues. In real life, his parents would have to be SERIOUSLY loaded for Caillou to be getting the VIP treatment everywhere he goes.

I always thought of him as a autistic kid, i don't know why.

Sorry, but that kid IS a brat, and his parents are losers who cannot discipline him. As a learning tool for adults, it might be of value to teach how NOT to parent. As a show for kids it's definitely harmful because it gives kids a role model who behaves poorly for 75% of every show.

If I did the *beep* that caillou did as a boy I would have been rightfully belted! I was born when this show first aired by the way! The little *beep* has no excuse! NONE!!!
