You seem to be right that the name isn't common in the US. According to the US Social Security Administration, it hasn't been in the top 1000 most popular baby names in any year since 2000.

On the other hand, it seemed to rise in popularity between 1981 and 1990, with a peak of 80th most popular in 1984 (the year the Sheena movie starring Tanya Roberts was released). Why the name got more popular before the movie, I don't know.
Yea I was born in 1990 and my name is Sheena. So it's interesting that it was a popular name at that time and perhaps bc of this movie!
