The picture scene at the end..

It makes you think what stories other old photos might have behind them. :)

reply

The picture scene at the end is what really makes me choke up.

How troublesome...

reply

Can you tell me at what point in the characters lives it is?

The Sense of familiarity between them in the spitting score implies a level of friendship already formed, but obviously cant be...

The Sense of reality the movie is intended to capture makes me doubtful of the coincidence that the two pairs met twice in their lives...

I can't place it before or after the main body of the Story - any ideas?

Marc

The picture was taken before they became friends when all four were at the smae place at the same time. there is a brief scene when an american tourist comes up and starts taking their pictures, before being ushered away. The picture at the end is the picture that he took.

How troublesome...

That photo at the end is one of the most moving freeze-frame endings to a film I've ever seen. And, yes, it DOES make one wonder what stories lie behind other famous photos (too bad Flags Of Our Fathers is such an unfocused hodge-podge about just such a photo)

reply

Has anyone got a screen grab or a good quality image of this photograph ?

I found this picture :

Thank you ilendil !!

reply

Thanks ilendil, I can improve this in Photoshop, what an end to a brilliant film eh!

You do not need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice

reply

Thankyou so much. hah now i'm going to have to rewatch it tonight lol

reply

i think the pictures is (of course is from the tourist that was with the girl that lost the cap) but they were friends in that moment, is not when they didnĀ“t knew... they allready were friends

reply

For me the final picture works as a testament of their friendship, but as a nod of the reunification too. Corea is separated, but they're all together in the final photo, like it was the only future possible, politicians and ideologies aside.

And that is a wonderful message!

most professional Soldiers whatever background usually have a lot of respect for each other, Politicans start wars , Soldiers fight them, so to them politics was irrelevant, it is against military codes to fraternise with the enemy as it would make them reluctant to shoot at people they know, Senior Officers would not be able to conduct wars if nobody wants to fight, the Christmas truce in World War One in Europe between the Germans and the English was a case in point, soon after nobody want to shoot at someone they know to have a little daughter, an Auntie, a girlfriend or a Mother waiting for them when they go back, when you Humanise the enemy, you are ineffective as a Soldier.

Its human nature.

reply

More the reason to consider the deliberate act of dehumanizing the enemy the truest of true war crimes. Why is it that people have to resolve their differences by making the opponent a sub-human in their minds eye? Politicians should be immediately impeached for making such accusations as Bush the Younger's did with his concept of an "Axis of Evil". Somehow I could understand characterizing the adversary as "evil" in a situation similar to what's going on in the Korean peninsula -- with 50 years of impending doom and gloom because of the mutual threats of invasion and assured destruction -- but to employ such an emotionally charged word to describe threats that are thousands or tens of thousands of kilometers away from the "motherland", is simply inflating the situation for a highly dubious effect.

Here is the scene if you care to watch it.

That last shot of the movie gave me goosebumps

reply

Did you completely miss the scene where the American tourist's red baseball cap blows off and passes over the border? The North Korean then passes the cap back while another tourist tries to take photos.

reply

reply
