why the R rating?

Ok, i watched this movie last night and i was fairly pleased. But, honestly i do not see what its rated R. I mean, overall there is nothing in this movie that would give it a rating over AA(pg 14). when you think of all the AA movies out there most of them contain more violence, sex and course language than this one. The subject was aimed at a older audiance but still.... maybe its just me, any opinions?

Well, most of the caddies used pretty strong language and of course there was that tirade between the drunk and his black caddy - my guess was that it was between PG-13 and R and that the molestatation pushed it toward the latter (that and we see the young love interest fairly nude). Good movie though, either way...

the reason for the R rating is because of the strong language use of alcohol and basically really this movie could only be understood by adults not that many people could understand the concept. GReat Movie still

They had to want an R rating.

For example, in the first scene at the trailer, he says "I'm sorry you were taken in by that Lee Trevino story. I just wish I was that *beep* good." And later, "You sure are sh*tty about taking directions."

They could have changed a couple words to get a PG. They must not have wanted one. Too bad.

Trust me, from having worked at a private country club lots of swearing goes on. I felt it was very realistic in how the movie portrayed the 'country club' mentality as well as other aspects. Members of the club where I worked.. as a caddie in my 40's swore with regularity. So the language was not so much something I think they went for to accept the rating but may have decided that it was better to accept it then to tone it down and not be even close to real.

Some of the R rating probably had to do with the profanity aimed at the black caddy. I can understand that.

What I don't understand is the PC police with their notebooks at the ready for tv shows and movies. They moan in their reviews about people smoking cigarettes or having a drink in period movies. Well, that's what people did then. Watch Mad Men or look at old photos in your family album. People are standing around with a cigarette in their hand.

No, I don't smoke but I also don't like seeing some pretentious prick lecturing just to be heard.
